Holiday apartment in Ulricehamn – Trails, water and culture

Ulricehamn has medieval origins and was formerly called Bogesund. Ulricehamn is home to Lake Åsunden, nature reserves, former railway paths and historic buildings. Today, the options range from hiking around Åsunden and cycling routes to water activities, museums, stages and preserved buildings.

Nature

The Åsundenleden, a hiking trail around 49 kilometres long, runs around Lake Åsunden. Along the way, the trail passes the Korpeboberg and Kråkebo nature reserves. Another notable trail is the Björnöleden, which passes through Komosse Nature Reserve, one of the largest bog areas in southern Sweden. The Galtåsenleden leads to Galtåsen, the highest point in Västergötland, at 362 metres above sea level.

There are also special places directly by the water. Vattenverket in Ulricehamn is located near Lake Åsunden and is now surrounded by a natural area with a waterfront promenade. Sturebadet is located near the centre of Ulricehamn; nearby are, among other things, the cold bath house and the bus station.

Culture

Six buildings of cultural and historical significance stand in Stadsparken. Historic buildings were moved to Stadsparken between 1910 and 1948; most of the relocations took place during the first seven years. The architectural heritage also includes Gamla Vattenverket, a building erected in 1914 in the National Romantic style, with its original machinery still functioning.

The preserved station house in Ulricehamn still conveys an impression of what the town looked like when train travel was the most important means of transport. Ulricehamns stationshus is a castle-like railway station building from 1906. Folkets Hus hosts opera and theatre performances as well as numerous films. The more than 100-year-old building has largely been preserved in its original condition.

In addition, Ulricehamn’s collection of images and museum objects is available online as a digital platform. Parts of the municipality’s cultural heritage can be explored there. There is also a mural depicting Ada Nilsson at the corner of Färgaregränd and Storgatan.

Cycling

Ulricehamn has 70 kilometres of car-free, paved paths on former railway tracks. Lassalyckan has paths and ski trails that can be used in both summer and winter. There are also marked mountain bike trails with varying levels of difficulty. A pump track adds jumps and ramps on a hilly wooden course.

Water and activities

Canoes or Canadian canoes can be rented at Prången bathing area. Ulricaparken has a bathing area with a jetty and sandy beach. The playground there includes, among other things, an obstacle course, a climbing net and a zip line.

The swimming and sports centre offers swimming, baby swimming, swimming for young children and water aerobics. It has two pools and a water play area. All treatments at Ulricehamn’s cold bath house include a swim in Lake Åsunden and use of the sauna. Ulricehamn’s cold bath house on Lake Åsunden also offers cold bathing.

The skate park is also open to the public every day of the week. Through Ungas fritid, skateboards, scooters and protective equipment can be borrowed free of charge for trying out the skate park.
