Ulricehamn is located inland in western Sweden between Borås and Jönköping and combines the landscape around Lake Åsunden with varied trails, historic sites and sporting experiences. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is worth deciding first what kind of trip you want: Should your holiday focus on walks by the water, longer hikes, culture or active days in Lassalyckan? Ulricehamn offers different starting points for all of these options.

Hiking Between Lake and Forest

The 4.1-kilometre Blå stigen hiking trail runs through Ulricehamn and is suitable as a manageable route for exploring on foot. Those planning a longer hike will find a much more extensive option in the 49-kilometre Åsundenleden. The circular trail runs around Lake Åsunden, through a varied agricultural and forestry landscape, and passes two nature reserves. At several points, it offers views of the lake. The approximately 6.7-kilometre Lassalyckan Trail adds another route to this selection.

These differences can help with holiday planning: Blå stigen can fit into a shorter outing, while Åsundenleden offers a considerably longer route. The Lassalyckan Trail provides a medium-distance option. Along the waterfront promenade, there are benches on land and on a wooden jetty by the lakeshore, so a leisurely walk with breaks can also be part of your itinerary.

Water Activities on Lake Åsunden

Lake Åsunden is used for swimming, fishing, paddling and boating. Several bathing spots offer different features. Prången bathing area is within walking distance of the centre of Ulricehamn and has a sandy beach. Sturebadet is located near the centre at the northern end of Lake Åsunden and offers a view across the northern part of the lake. The grounds of Ulricaparken contain another bathing area with a bathing jetty and sandy beach; there is also a playground there.

This combination of lake and local attractions can be a helpful guide when choosing accommodation. If water activities are your main focus, you should take the bathing spots mentioned above and Lake Åsunden into account when planning your trip. Those who prefer to combine different ideas for each day can alternate walks, culture and sporting activities without committing to just one type of holiday.

Cultural and Historical Discoveries

Stadsparken is home to six buildings of cultural and historical interest. They were created as miniature versions of Skansen and give the park a distinctive historical character. The townscape also features notable landmarks: Rådhuset was built in 1789 and 1790 and also served as a schoolhouse until 1914. The former station house opened in 1906, when the railway to Falköping began operating, and has been protected as a listed building since 1991. Vattenverket on the shore of Lake Åsunden was built in 1914 in a National Romantic style, with architecture reminiscent of a medieval church.

Ulricehamn's art and museum collection comprises more than 6,000 objects, most of which date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The public can mainly learn about them through digitisation and smaller exhibitions at other locations in the municipality. A mural at the corner of Färgaregränd and Storgatan depicts Ada Nilsson. Films are shown in two cinema auditoriums at Folkets Hus on Nygatan, east of the town centre; the building was constructed between 1903 and 1905 and later developed close ties with the labour movement and its organisations.

Sport and Leisure in Lassalyckan

Lassalyckan is a municipal sports and leisure facility with good training opportunities all year round. It has trails and tracks for running, skiing, mountain biking and walking, as well as illuminated running tracks. The ski trails cater to different abilities, from competitive athletes to families with children. Lassalyckan also has a wakeboard park with obstacles in one of its ponds. The golf course of Ulricehamns Golfklubb is located at the highest point in Ulricehamn, next to the Lassalyckan sports and outdoor recreation area.

A blanket choice is therefore less useful than considering which of these experiences should define your holiday.
