Holiday apartment in Hakenäset – Culture, Nature and Hakefjorden

Hakenäset combines sweeping landscapes with an unusually rich cultural history. In the southeast of the peninsula, sweeping views open up across Hakefjorden and the mainland. At the same time, evidence from different eras, paths through wooded and hilly landscapes, and opportunities for special nature observations are all found close together on Hakenäset.

Nature and Water

With its numerous islands, Hakefjorden offers particularly good conditions for outdoor recreation on land and water, as well as enriching nature and cultural experiences. The geographical setting can also be clearly understood: Viewed from the marina, Hakenäset lies on the opposite side of the entrance to Svanviks Kile. Harbour porpoises are occasionally sighted in the area of Hakefjorden near Hakenäset.

For part of Hakenäset, the following applies due to an amendment to the landscape protection regulations enacted in 1980 and documented in 1981: Felling forest there is prohibited without permission from the County Administrative Board. Hakenäset is also described as a habitat for woodpeckers, with many European green woodpeckers and occasional black woodpeckers.

Culture and History

Among the area's prominent cultural and historical remains is Gullhögen, a passage grave near Berga on Hakenäset. It is an example of the small passage graves with rounded chambers that are typical of Bohuslän. Gullhögen has a rounded chamber with a diameter of just over 2 metres and a passage just under 3 metres long. In addition to Gullhögen on Hakenäset, a previously unknown Pitted Ware settlement was discovered.

Valla 489 is also one of the area's notable archaeological traces. The settlement is described as well preserved; features and finds remain in situ. Valla 489 is also considered to have high educational potential.

The area's contemporary culture is reflected, among other things, in the studio of Thomas Nilsson near Hakenäset. He works there in the fields of graphic art and painting. In the 1750s, Berga hamn had a fish-oil rendering works, which also connects the history of the harbour with the local past.

Agriculture and Local Produce

Linds lantbruk produces beef and potatoes. The produce is sold directly from the farm and to nearby shops. The farm has been KRAV-certified since 1994. The animals at Linds lantbruk remain outdoors year-round and have access to shelter.

Paths across Hakenäset

Bergapromenaden follows paths between the farms up to Porsdalen and then downhill to Sandviken. From Porsdalen, Bergapromenaden offers views over Hakefjorden. The return route of Bergapromenaden to Berga hamn ran along the cliffs by the water.

A hike through Bökeviken and Hakenäset documented in 2025 was approximately 5 kilometres long and led along forest paths, hilly trails and through wooded areas. A cultural and historical hike between Bökeviken and Hakenäset passed several old farms, illustrating the area's historical and cultural character.
