Sexdrega is a destination for travellers who want to combine nature, activity and local culture in their travel plans. In addition to longer routes through forest and river landscapes, there are short activity circuits, historical details and regional features. When looking for a suitable holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore particularly interesting to consider which experiences you would like to focus on during your stay.

Culture and Local Stories

The church of Sexdrega has a baptismal font from the 12th century, attributed to Mäster Andreas. Those interested in older examples of craftsmanship and faith will find a tangible connection to the history of the village here. The Sexdregasamlingen is also part of the local cultural identity: the collection includes handwritten folk musician books and sheet music from Västergötland, created in the second half of the 18th century.

Åkersta also points to an earlier history of everyday life and commerce. A wine and spirits shop was located on the ground floor, while the upper floor contained an apartment with six rooms and a kitchen. A culinary speciality adds to these impressions: sparkling punch was produced in Sexdrega as a speciality. Such details also make the village interesting for travellers who want to include small cultural discoveries between nature experiences.

River, Lake and Trails in the Surrounding Area

Immediately north of Sexdrega, the Buttorps forsar nature reserve lies along the Ätran River. It covers around 1,700 metres of the river, including the riverbanks. The nearby Buttorp-Ljungafors fishing area between Sexdrega and Svenljunga also offers 15 km of flowing waters in the scenic Ätran Valley. On the eastern side, the area can be reached via Route 154 between Sexdrega and Svenljunga, and on the western side via the road between Sexdrega and Ringestena.

South of Sexdrega is the Hagalundssjön bathing area. It can be reached via the road towards Ringestena/Roasjö. Together with the river landscape to the north, this provides different directions for planning your days, without requiring you to organise all excursions in the same way.

Active Days and Shorter Activities

For a longer tour, the Ätran Trail runs for 46 km alongside streams through deep forests. If you prefer a shorter route, you can consider the illuminated Elljusspår Sexdrega running trail. It is 2.5 km long and starts at the Idrottsplatsen sports facility. Another compact option is Ängavarvet at Ängagärdet in Sexdrega: the activity circuit is 1.0 km long and forms part of the exercise loop there.

Cyclists will also find a clearly described option. The Svenljunga–Borås stage of the Sjuhäradsrundan mostly follows a disused railway line and is predominantly paved. This allows you to choose between a longer forest and river tour, short local circuits and a cycling tour with a different type of route when planning your trip.

Choosing the Right Accommodation for Your Plans

When looking for a holiday apartment in Sexdrega, it is worth deciding first on the desired mix of culture, water and activity. If you want to include the Ätran and the fishing area, the access directions described above will play a different role than they would for a stay focused on short activity circuits or a cycling tour. Those travelling with several generations can combine longer and shorter activities without limiting their choice to just one type of excursion.

When searching for specific accommodation, check which location suits your planned destinations. Sexdrega provides a varied basis for this: historical details of the village, a regional collection, water landscapes, forest trails and a predominantly paved cycling stage.
