Hindås combines long-distance hiking trails, a lake landscape and a railway station building of significant cultural and historical importance. This allows you to plan your trip in very different ways: with an extended hike, a stay centred around paddling or an interest in local history and cultural events. For families with different ideas about their holiday, the area therefore offers several concrete points of interest without requiring every day to follow the same pattern.

Hiking trails with different route profiles

The 42-kilometre Vildmarksleden begins at Hindås railway station and ends at Skatås motionscentral in Gothenburg. The 140-kilometre Sjuhäradsleden also begins at Hindås railway station and leads to Mullsjö. The significantly different trail lengths can help you plan your trip: you can view Hindås as the starting point for a single hike or make a longer tour the focus of your stay. In the surrounding region, the Sjuhäradsleden passes through changing landscapes of forest, agricultural land and urban areas.

A marked trail system begins at Hindåsgården and passes through the eastern areas of Klippan. All the hiking trails and exercise paths in Hindås begin at Hindåsgården. Those who want to compare different trails therefore have two named points of reference: the railway station for the two long-distance trails and Hindåsgården for the local trail system. Hindås Skidklubb manages the section of the Sjuhäradsleden located in Härryda Municipality.

Klippan, Lakes and Canoeing

The Klippan nature reserve is located in the immediate vicinity of Hindås. Also nearby is Klippan Farm, which was called Assaretorp before 1908 and is among the oldest farms in Hindås and Björketorp parish. The buildings, now in ruins, have stood there since at least 1811; the foundations, a fireplace wall and a tall chimney shaft from the residential building and barn remain as ruins. This allows you to include both nature and historical traces as different focuses when planning your day.

Östra Nedsjön is connected to Västra Nedsjön by a canal. At the northern end of Östra Nedsjön, Hindås Kanotklubb has its own property at Orreviken “Tomten”, with a wind shelter on a sandy beach. Hindås Kanotklubb and Kanotcentral are a recognised canoeing centre offering canoe hire. Paddling disciplines available include kayaking, canoeing, SUP, surfski and dragon boat. Every summer, the club also runs a canoeing school; as part of this, young people spend up to three summer weeks on Västra Nedsjön in Hindås learning to canoe.

Culture in the Town Centre

Hindås’s culturally and historically significant railway station building is centrally located in the town centre. Numerous municipal and private cultural events take place in the station building throughout the year. A ceiling painting in a church in Hindås was created in the summer of 1923 by art professor Ernst Pfannschmidt. These details also make Hindås interesting for travellers who want to alternate between active days on the water or trails and cultural discoveries.

The Right Accommodation for Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment in Hindås, it is worth deciding on your preferred focus first. For longer routes, the railway station and the two long-distance trails that begin there are important local reference points. For paddling activities, Östra Nedsjön, Västra Nedsjön and the canoeing centre are the main attractions. If you want to include culture and local history in your plans, the centrally located station building and the events held there take centre stage.

If you would like to continue your search beyond Hindås, you can find more locations under Härryda, Hällingsjö, Mölnlycke, Landvetter and Rävlanda.
