Discover Hällingsjö: Lake, Forest and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Hällingsjö
Hällingsjö combines a distinctive lakeside landscape with traces of rural cultural history. Gingsjön is a clear-water lake surrounded by coniferous and deciduous forests. The natural setting also includes Gisslebäcken, which runs through a deeply cut valley with nutrient-rich, damp deciduous forest. Those looking for a holiday combining water, forest and historical discoveries will find a variety of ways to plan their days here.
Gingsjön: Swimming Area and Landscape Experience
The Gingsjöns badplats bathing area in Hällingsjö has jetties, a diving tower and a toilet. Gingsjön is also designated as an EU bathing water site. There is an important seasonal rule to note when planning a day of swimming: from 1 May through 15 September inclusive, dogs and horses are prohibited at Gingsjön in Hällingsjö. This makes it possible to coordinate time by the water with your own travel plans and the interests of your fellow travellers.
From June to September, IFK Hällingsjö hosts auto bingo every Saturday at 2:00 p.m. This clearly scheduled activity adds a distinctive touch alongside nature and cultural experiences. If you would like to plan your stay not only around the landscape but also around a specific date, this Saturday event should be taken into consideration.
Björnhult and the History of the Cultural Landscape
The Björnhult area lies on the northern shore of Gingsjön in Hällingsjö and illustrates the late cultivation of the forest region. It is considered the best-preserved area in Härryda Municipality and contains many large clearance cairns from the cultivation period. This gives the landscape a historical dimension that differs from simply spending time by the lake.
The history of the area can also be experienced in other places. After 1931, the water-powered mill on the Hällingsjö 1:10 property had two roller mills and two pairs of millstones, and it remained in operation until 1974. On the eastern shore of Hällingsjö, the foundations of a large wooden building with a drying loft have been preserved; it was built as a tannery in 1850. Near the inn, the surroundings preserve the old country road with a milestone and a park-like garden. The inn was moved to Hällingsjö because the location at a road junction was more advantageous.
Hällingsberg, also known as Säteriet, is a small manor house from the 19th century in Hällingsjö; its main building overlooks the arable land to the south. Hällingsberg Estate is surrounded by a park, and its driveway runs through an avenue of trees. These places and details are suitable for anyone who wants their trip to include not only natural scenery but also buildings, roads and former uses of the landscape.
