Säve can be discovered through several distinctive aspects: equestrian sports, aviation history, medieval church art and historical traces in the landscape. There are also specific opportunities for active days and useful information for planning your journey. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house, you can use the main focus of your trip as a starting point when choosing where to stay.

Equestrian Sports at Göteborg Horse Park

Every year, the Göteborg Horse Park in Säve hosts competitions, training sessions and other activities in many different disciplines. The Göteborg Hästsportklubb organises annual competitions and training sessions there for ponies and horses. The facilities themselves are also noteworthy: the 65 × 110-metre outdoor arena has an adjacent warm-up arena. The oval track and the pace track are used for training sessions and competitions.

Visitors have various options for incorporating equestrian sports into their plans. At Göteborg Horse Park, you can ride without booking in advance, book for individual use or reserve the arenas exclusively for up to four hours. Depending on your travel plans, a visit can therefore be arranged either as a sporting activity or as a carefully scheduled appointment.

Racing and Outdoor Experiences

The Göteborg Galopp racecourse is located on Sävefältet in Gothenburg. All races take place on a large grass track with a circumference of just over 1,900 metres. Some steeplechase races are held during the season from May to October; there is also a sand track for training inside the grass track.

Göteborg Galopp also offers guided tours. During these, you can see horses up close as they start from the starting stalls and meet a jockey and possibly a racing trainer. Visitors can watch the races from close to the horses and take part in outdoor activities such as picnics and activities for children. This creates a different kind of outing from training at the Horse Park and can be a factor when planning days together for people with different interests.

Church, Aviation and Regional History

Säve Church probably dates back to the 13th century. It is an example of a medieval parish church that was converted into a hall church in the 18th century. The interior also provides a specific historical point of reference: the ceiling paintings were created in two phases; in 1704, Christian Schönfeldt painted the barrel vault in the older part of the church. Anyone interested in church art and architectural history will find a peaceful cultural focal point here.

The cultural-historical Aeroseum presents the history and development of aviation, from Icarus to modern aircraft, helicopters and other flying machines. Aeroseum thus complements the historical themes with technology and aviation history. You can therefore shape your days either more around equestrian sports and events or around culture, history and exhibitions.

Brunstorp Burial Ground and Landscape

The Brunstorp burial ground lies on the rise opposite and slightly west of Säve's old station building, on Högagårdsvägen in the north of Hisingen. The burial ground contains several large and small burial mounds. A small path from Högagårdsvägen leads past a light beige telecommunications building on the right to the rise where the Brunstorp burial ground is located.

The plant life is also part of this place: a large amount of field scabious grows at Brunstorp, attracting many different species of butterflies in late summer. The start and finish area of the Säve Trail Run is located at the Säve SK clubhouse at Tåfjällsvägen 15, 423 71 Säve. This makes it possible to include historical discoveries and experiences in the landscape in your own daily plans.

Getting There and Choosing Where to Stay

There are several specific transport connections for getting around the Säve area. Västtrafik route 137 runs between Kärna, Säve and Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen. Bus 35 runs from Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen to the Säve Depå stop, which is used for visits to Aeroseum. Kornhallsleden is a free cable ferry with a crossing of 200 metres and a crossing time of approximately two minutes.

If you are planning to use public transport, you can take routes 137 and bus 35 into account when choosing your holiday apartment or holiday house. For further orientation, you can also view Styrsö, Nödinge, Donsö, Torslanda, Fiskebäck, Hjuvik, Gothenburg and Hisings Kärra.
