Kungsör combines waterside paths with historic sites and varied landscapes. This is particularly evident along Kungsörsleden: The trail follows the meandering course of a stream to the Arbogaån, revealing different landscapes along the way.

Nature and trails

The northern section of Kungsörsleden passes through an agricultural landscape near Lake Mälaren, with oak pastures and shore meadows. In the south, the trail runs through a forest-dominated landscape dotted with small farms. Kungsörsleden is signposted in both directions. There is parking for cars at the Kungsudden trailhead; those arriving by train can reach the trail from Kungsör railway station via the waterfront promenade.

The Jägaråsen nature reserve also showcases different sides of the surrounding area. It includes riparian woodland, pine forest and broadleaf woodland. At Rundelborg, there are expansive views over Lake Mälaren and the Kungs-Barkarö plain. At nearby Lockmora friluftsgård, exercise trails of 1.25 kilometres, 2 kilometres and 5 kilometres begin, running through varied woodland. The 1.25-kilometre trail also includes a family-friendly fairy-tale path.

Culture and history

In the 16th century, Gustav Vasa established one of his royal estates at Kungsudden. The so-called Hovfruntimmersgebäude is the only surviving building of this royal estate. Today, it is used as a local heritage centre and houses a local history museum as well as a café open year-round. From Kungsudden, there are views of Lake Mälaren and the restored shore meadows. The grazed shore meadows at Kungsudden attract breeding and migratory birds.

Another historical highlight is Kung Karls kyrka. It was built from 1690 to 1700 on the orders of Karl XI and designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. The church is an original Baroque church bearing the personal imprint of Karl XI. At Kung Karls kyrka and on the information board at the car park, there is a QR code for a tour on a mobile phone.

At Karl XI:s promenad stands a rune stone considered to be the only one in the innermost part of the Lake Mälaren region. The cultural offerings are complemented by a digital tour of public art in Kungsör. A yearly art and craft safari also takes place, during which visitors can visit local artists and craftspeople in their working environments.

Water and leisure

The Arbogaån offers opportunities for motorboating, sailing and rowing. Fishing in Lake Mälaren with hand-held fishing equipment such as fishing rods and casting rods is permitted free of charge.

Miniature Kingdom adds a detailed miniature world: The attraction features a model railway in 1:87 scale. Covering 200 square metres, it displays Swedish landscapes with moving trains, lorries and buses.

Kungsörs badhus has a 16-metre pool, a simple cafeteria and a sauna. Outside school hours, the facility is open to private individuals for lane swimming and recreational bathing. Skillingeudd is a bathing spot on Lake Mälaren with a sandy beach, lawn, jetty and diving tower. It also has a barbecue area, changing rooms, as well as toilets and accessible toilet facilities. Cinema, theatre and art
