Ingaröstrand lies in the inner Stockholm archipelago on Återlögafjärden, about 4 kilometres east of Brunn centrum. Water, beaches and archipelago scenery define the area. Ingarö also offers nature and cultural experiences ranging from short educational trails to longer hiking trails and historic sites.

Beaches and communal facilities

In Ingaröstrand, there is a communal bathing area with several sandy beaches. The communal facility Ingaröstrand ga:8 includes several jetties, including a bathing jetty on part of Barnviksnäs 1:1. Other features of the area include a communal sauna by the water and a community boat club. There is a boules court beside the harbour shed. Together, these facilities give the area a strong connection to the water and life on the shore.

On Återlögafjärden, shore protection applies to the area's parking areas within 100 metres of the shoreline.

Archipelago nature on Björnö and at Långviksträsk

Björnö lies at the far end of Ingarö, in Värmdö Municipality. Björnö Nature Reserve has bathing beaches, rocky swimming spots and hiking trails, with views across Nämdöfjärden. The Björnöspåret trail runs for 7.1 kilometres through varied archipelago scenery in the reserve. Those interested in the Baltic Sea environment can also find an educational trail at Björnö: it is about 200 metres long and has 15 information boards about the Baltic Sea and its species. With trails of different lengths, you can choose the shorter educational trail as an alternative to the longer hiking trail for the day.

The Långviksträsk Nature Reserve on Ingarö offers a different landscape. This largely untouched marsh and woodland area surrounds the small lake Långviksträsk. A marked nature trail, identified by yellow markings, starts at the parking area in the southern part of the reserve. If you would rather explore marsh and woodland than beaches and archipelago trails, this spot offers a distinct focus on nature.

Cultural trail and the history of Ingarö

The Pilhamn Cultural Trail is a 1.7-kilometre route from Ingarö Kyrka to Dyviken. It follows the Kolström waterway and runs partly through Ingarö's old parish centre, which is designated an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. Ingarö Kyrka was inaugurated in 1792. It is protected under Chapter 4 of the Swedish Cultural Heritage Act and is located in an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. The trail thus links a specific route with historic sites and the cultural landscape of the old parish centre.

The Sockenstuga is also part of the area's history. The building, reconstructed in 1818, served as a school and for parish meetings; it was used as a school until 1873. On 4 November 2022, the Sockenstuga was moved from the vicarage to Pilhamn Cultural Centre. The Ingarö Hembygdsförening also runs a museum.

A local tradition is the Midsummer celebration on the Midsummer Meadow. It has been held there for many years by independent celebration committees. Those interested in local life and history can explore this celebration site, the cultural trail and the area's historic themes as different ways to connect with a stay in Ingaröstrand.
