Enhörna, also known as Enhörnalandet, is a peninsula in Lake Mälaren northwest of the urban area of Södertälje. Locally, Enhörna is also known as Körsbärslandet. Between water, forests, farmland and historic sites, a diverse landscape unfolds, ranging from old churches and archaeological traces to hiking trails, bathing spots and winter sports.

Landscape

Överenhörna kyrka stands on a hill surrounded by farmland, forest and water. An important hiking route in the area is Täljeleden, which leads to Enhörnalandet. The trail is marked in yellow and runs mainly along hilly forest paths. In Sundsvik in Enhörna, a 3-kilometre connecting trail also leads along a gravel road to Täljeleden.

Culture

The Enhörna Hembygdsmuseum consists of Småskolan, Storskolan, Skolgården and Husaby. All areas of the museum have been adapted so that people with mobility impairments can view the exhibitions and use the toilets. The museum includes a playground in the schoolyard. In Småskolan, it offers coffee, juice and bread.

Ytterenhörna kyrka dates back to the 12th century. A runestone stands in front of it; at the entrance to its churchyard are two carved stone slabs with rock carvings known as Tunahällarna. Överenhörna kyrka was built around the year 1200 and was originally a manorial church belonging to the royal estate Husby, now called Ekensbergs säteri.

History

The excavation area at Husby backe can be visited. Paths lead around the area, while information boards explain the various excavation sites. The excavations uncovered a glass paste bead and postholes, indicating a predecessor to the Husby manor complex dating back at least to the Viking Age. The finds from the investigations at Husaby Enhörna date from the Viking Age, approximately from 800 to 1050 AD, through to the year 1650.

Trails and water

In summer, steamboats call at the jetties in Sandviken and Ekensberg on their way to Stockholm, Mariefred and Birka. According to the timetable, bus routes 787 and 787X operate regular services from Södertälje Centrum to Enhörna. The area around Enhörna Hembygdsmuseum is served by bus route 787; the Överenhörna kyrka stop is approximately 75 metres from the museum.

Underåsbadet Enhörna is a beach on Lake Mälaren with lawns and a volleyball court. At the bathing area near Gillberga, there is a ramp onto the jetty as well as a ramp from the beach into the water.

Winter

In winter, the Enhörna friluftsgård grounds offer cross-country ski trails. These include a 3-kilometre illuminated trail and a shorter illuminated trail. There is also a small sledding hill for younger children.
