Holiday apartment in Tyresö: Discover nature, the archipelago and culture

Tyresö is home to natural and cultural sites featuring very different landscapes: recreational facilities and bodies of water, paths through forests and nature reserves, historic castle and torp settings, as well as traces of industrial history. Key places include Albysjön, Tyresta National Park and Kalvfjärden.

Nature and outdoor activities

Alby Nature Reserve is located by Albysjön, about three kilometres from the centre of Tyresö. It offers a recreational facility, swimming opportunities and valuable natural surroundings. The Alby recreational area by the lake complements this setting with swimming areas, barbecue sites, walking trails, fitness trails and large lawns for various activities.

The landscape of Alby Nature Reserve features deep valleys, substantial clay deposits and ridges with moraine deposits. There are also exposed, nutrient-poor rocky areas with gnarled pines, as well as oak and hazel bushes in places. The reserve can be reached on foot and by bicycle; from the Nyfors bus stop, it is about 500 metres away. At Nyfors, a loop measuring 1.5 kilometres in total leads to an impressive waterfall with a drop of five metres.

Forests and hiking trails

Several pilgrim trails for all age groups begin at Stockholms Pilgrimscentrum in Tyresö. They are just under three to 15 kilometres long and are partly marked in the landscape. The nature walks in Tyresö also include six self-guided hikes and guidebooks for areas accessible by wheelchair or walking frame.

Tyresta National Park and Tyresta Nature Reserve can be reached from Tyresö; there are several entrances to the national park in Tyresö. Tyresta Nature Reserve has a pram-friendly path, a barbecue area, a rest shelter, a café and Nationalparkernas hus, with exhibitions and guided tours. The forests of Tyresta have retained their character as primeval forests. Trees of different ages and species grow there, with especially great diversity among the mosses, lichens and fungi.

The third stage of the Sörmlandsleden begins at the Alby recreational area or Alby Nature Reserve. It passes through a hollow, over a bog with a cold spring, continues across rocky areas and enters Tyresta National Park.

Culture and history

Tyresö slott och park is a well-preserved cultural and historical setting of national interest. The main building of the castle houses a museum showing how the castle and estate’s last private owner lived around the turn of the 20th century.

Notholmen can be reached via a bridge from the castle park. It offers swimming opportunities, the chance to fish from the rocks, picnic areas, a café and a guest harbour. Ahlstorp båtsmanstorp is a well-preserved cultural and historical setting within a nature reserve and along the Sörmlandsleden. The small red dwelling with outbuildings and meadow is a typical crofter’s farm or torp setting.

Uddby kvarn och kraftverk is an industrial-historical site with remnants of various former activities and an operational power station. Uddby gård is Tyresö Municipality’s model farm. Various animals live there and help keep the landscape open.

Archipelago and rocky landscapes

Klövberget offers opportunities for swimming from the rocks and beautiful views over Kalvfjärden. Sandholmarna Nature Reserve includes a mainland section, the islands of Stora Sandholmen and Lilla Sandholmen, and part of Erstaviken. It forms a relatively untouched archipelago landscape in the Stockholm archipelago.

The nature reserve on the Brevik Peninsula consists of rocky-ground forest, a fault scarp with deciduous broadleaf forest and a cave system. Another nature reserve forms a headland in the western part of Kalvfjärden and has high natural values as well as great importance for local recreation. At Dyviks lövängar, visitors can go for walks and swim from the rocky shore of Ällmorafjärden.

Food and drink

Café Notholmen serves light meals, coffee, cakes and ice cream, with seating indoors and outdoors. It serves food and drinks all year round.
