Holiday apartment in Vingåker: castle park, nature and trails

Vingåker combines castle history, signposted trails, lake landscapes and special insights into regional craft and cultural traditions. Cultural events and activities take place at Säfstaholm Castle, both under municipal auspices and in cooperation with other parties. The history of the castle began in the early 17th century. The estate includes an English landscape park with large ponds, inviting visitors to take relaxing breaks, go for walks and enjoy picnics. The park is also home to the protected parent tree of the Säfstaholm apple, which is over 200 years old.

Culture

The history of the town can be explored on a town walk marked with red signs in Vingåker. The walk conveys the local history of clothing, bodies and garment production. Västra Vingåker Church is also one of the area's notable historic buildings: it is one of Sweden's largest rural churches and has origins dating back to the 14th century.

At the Högsjö Industrial Museum, the area's textile history is presented. The museum is housed in the so-called White School, built in 1785, and offers visits for the general public as well as booked groups. Thorslundkagge presents another aspect of regional craft history with guided tours of its cooperage. Whisky tastings are also available, featuring drinks that have been stored in its own wooden barrels. Fourteen historic oak barrels are displayed in Ekliggarnas Hall.

Nature

Igelbålen Nature Reserve is known for its many beautiful orchids. Its landscape includes a lake, a bog, a quaking bog, pastureland and forest. A signposted circular trail of approximately 5 kilometres leads through the reserve from the southern car park. The Tisnaren offers another type of landscape: a clear-water lake covering 39 square kilometres.

The Tomsängen Trail runs through deciduous woodland and oak pastures by Högsjön. The Tomsängen loop passes through a tree-covered pasture to an Iron Age burial ground, continues to Högsjön and then returns. It is approximately 2 kilometres long and takes about 45 minutes on foot. There is no car park at Tomsängen. The Bistorp bus stop is approximately 500 metres from the car park at Tomsängen Nature Reserve. Cows graze in the Tomsängen pasture during the summer.

The Grävsjön runt hiking trail also stays close to the water: it is approximately 4 kilometres long and runs along the shore of Grävsjön. Thus, Vingåker offers a range of different trail types, from a marked loop in a nature reserve to shorter routes featuring forest, pastureland, lakeshore and archaeological points of interest.

Active days

The Båsenbergabacken winter sports area has four downhill runs. The Båsenberga recreation area also has a 2.5-kilometre illuminated track. For cycling, the Båsenberga MTB facility includes a technical trail. The Hjorten MTB trail is approximately 3 kilometres long, while the Ekorren MTB trail is approximately 1 kilometre long.

Getting around

Trains run from Vingåker Station to other places, mainly operated by Mälartåg. Alongside the trails, nature reserves, lakes and cultural sites, this also highlights specific regional transport hubs as part of the destination.
