Vik lies on a narrow strip of beach below high sand dunes and is surrounded by orchards. This brings different landscapes together here: coast, sand, cultivated land and paths through the surrounding area. When choosing a holiday apartment in Vik, it is worth first considering the kind of trip you want. Would you like to combine days of hiking with beaches and surfing, or are you more interested in fishing village history, art and golf?

Hiking between the coast, hills and countryside

Stage 5 of the Skåneleden trail passes through Vik. Near Vik, the Skåneleden turns inland and leads past hills and cultivated land. If you prefer a coastal route, you can plan the Skåneleden hike from Vik to Simrishamn. It follows beaches, small paths and a cycle path. This makes it possible to combine different hiking ideas with the same holiday base: one route with views of hills and cultivated land, and another where the coast and the route along the beaches are the main focus.

The coastal landscape itself also offers specific destinations. The beach at Viks Fiskeläge south of Vik is several hundred metres long and consists of fine sand. Prästens badkar is a unique, rose-like rock formation on the cliffs south of Vik. These two landscapes are distinctly different and can play a role in planning your day. Surfing is also available in Vik.

Fishing Village History and Art

Vik was a combination of a fishing village and a farming village and is considered the oldest of Österlen’s seven fishing villages. Viks Fiskeläge is mentioned in written sources dating from 1613. The history of the hill in present-day Vik reaches even further back: during the final part of the Mesolithic, a group of people lived there. The preserved area of the Vik settlement was not washed away by the sea and lies above the highest coastline.

Those who enjoy combining landscapes and culture while travelling can also make a note of Tjörnedala in the area around Vik. Tjörnedala has been known as an art centre since the 1990s. Östra Skånes Konstnärsgille, or ÖSKG for short, operates there with an art gallery, a café and a shop. Alongside the historical connections, this adds another cultural accent to travel planning.

Golf on the Coast and Practical Information

Lilla Vik is a classic, green parkland golf course; many of the holes run along the coast of the Baltic Sea. The history of golf also belongs to the area: golf was already played on Vik’s beach meadows before Österlens Golf Club was founded in 1945. A holiday apartment in Vik is therefore an especially natural choice if you want to plan a range of experiences from a fixed holiday base without limiting your stay to just one theme.

There are also specific reference points for arrival and day planning. There are 20 parking spaces at Prästens badkar. The SkåneExpressen 3 bus route stops at “Vik Kanikevägen”; from there, it is about 2 km on foot. Bear this approximate walking distance in mind when coordinating your accommodation and excursions.

Other Places in the Selection

If you would like to consider Vik together with other destinations from the same selection, you can also find Simrishamn, Borrby, Tommarp, Gladsax, Brantevik, Gärsnäs, Rörum and Hammenhög.
