Brantevik combines the atmosphere of two historic fishing villages with maritime history, unusual traces of geological history and diverse opportunities for active days. The town consists of Norra Brantevik and Södra Brantevik.

Fishing villages and maritime history

In the western part of Brantevik stands a Dutch windmill built in 1886. It is one of the town’s distinctive historic details and complements the character of the two fishing villages. The history of the Sjöassuransföreningen Hoppet offers a deeper insight into the maritime past. This insurance association for ships from Brantevik was founded in 1871. The Hoppet Foundation, Stiftelsen Hoppet, continues to operate a maritime museum. During your stay, you can easily combine this focus with a walk through the town and a look at the harbour, without having to devote the entire day to a single experience.

Hiking, cycling and nature experiences

The Signaturled Österlen includes a 13-kilometre day-hike stage to Brantevik’s fishing harbour. This route is a practical option for a longer day of hiking. You can explore the area south of the town on a shorter route: this is where the hiking area known as “Grönet” is located. From there, you can walk through nature to Gislövshammar, approximately 4 kilometres away. The different route lengths help you adapt your daily plans to the interests and pace of your travel group.

Brantevik also offers clear orientation for a cycling trip. The Sydkustleden passes through the town, and paved cycle paths also lead to Simrishamn and Skillinge. If you would like to connect several places by bicycle during your stay, these designated connections are an important criterion when choosing your accommodation. For a quieter day in nature, you can observe the surroundings of Brantevik: more than 120 bird species have been recorded there.

Stones, fossils and a bathing spot

Near Brantevik, ripple marks in the rock bear witness to wave movements on an ancient seabed. Trace fossils of the species Psammichnites gigas are also on display at the harbour. They were found in Lower Cambrian sandstone and are approximately 540 million years old. Geological details like these turn a walk into a voyage of discovery, bringing landscape and geological history together. Vejakåsen is Brantevik’s bathing spot and adds a waterside location to the selection.

Excursions on the water and practical information

The Jakten Hoppet usually departs from Brantevik; departures are also possible from other ports on the east and south coasts. Trips on the Jakten Hoppet are open to everyone, regardless of their sailing experience. Route 321 connects Simrishamn and Skillinge via Brantevik and is therefore another way to combine your choice of location with excursions. When looking for accommodation, you can decide whether hiking, cycling, maritime history, nature observation or a sailing trip should be the focus of your stay.
