Discover Näsum: Hiking Trails, Nature and History
Accommodation in Näsum
Näsum is a destination for anyone who enjoys spending their days among hiking trails, landscapes and regional history. The Näsumaleden trail runs for 24 kilometres, mostly along gravel roads, and is designated for motor vehicles, bicycles and hiking. Those looking for a longer route through changing landscapes will find forests, small fields, grazing pastures and stone walls at Västanåberget. In Sibbarpsdalen, the route also passes waterfalls and the ruins of former mills. When choosing a holiday apartment in Näsum, it can therefore be helpful to use your own excursion plans and preferred way of spending the day as a guide.
Routes for Shorter and Longer Days
A more compact option is the approximately 3.5-kilometre Näsumaviksleden trail. The circular trail runs around Näsumaviken and is located in the Åsen area. The landscape there is connected to the 80-million-year-old fossil history of Bromölla Municipality; the area is considered rich in fossils. Näsumaviken is also home to remarkable flora and fauna. The short loop and the longer Näsumaleden thus offer different ways to experience the surroundings without having to limit your trip to just one activity.
There is also a dedicated option for cycling tours: Banvallsleden is an approximately 29-kilometre paved cycling route along the former railway line between Sölvesborg and Olofström. In the Näsum area, Skåneleden, with the SL1 Coast to Coast, Stage 2, and Blekingeleden, Stage 2, also meet in Näsums bokskogar. Näsums bokskogar are located in the northern part of Ryssberget and offer several hiking trails to choose from. Näsumaleden also leads close to fishing spots.
Landscape and History Around Näsum
Gudahagen adds a historical perspective to your stay. Näsum is home to a burial ground established during the Late Iron Age. Gudahagen consists of a rectangle reinforced with stones and built around a natural elevation; its sides are up to 50 metres long. At the Vikingamarknad of Gudahagen, games and competitions inspired by the Viking Age are held. The event takes place on the third weekend of September and can therefore be a special reason to plan your travel dates accordingly.
Another testament to the region's history is Humletorkan. The building was constructed in 1926 and, during its heyday, dried up to 8 tonnes of hop cones annually. Today, Café Humletorkan serves freshly baked fika, coffee and light, seasonally adapted meals, including open sandwiches, hearty salads and warming soups. Näsums kyrka was built in 1870 to replace a church dating from the 1790s. Humletorkan is located on the road between Vånga and Näsum, on the slope of Västanåberget overlooking the Holjeån valley.
The Right Base for Planning Your Trip
When looking for a holiday apartment in Näsum, you therefore have various travel ideas to choose from: a longer hiking or cycling tour, a short circular walk at Näsumaviken, nature observation, fishing spots or historical discoveries in Gudahagen and at the church. Travel information by train and bus is available for starting the Näsumaleden at Näsums kyrka or in Östafors. When choosing your accommodation, consider which of these experiences should be the focus of your trip. For additional orientation in the area, you can also visit Bromölla.
