Agunnaryd combines aquatic landscapes, nature experiences and historical traces. Those planning a trip with canoeing, birdwatching, days at the beach and cultural and historical discoveries will find various opportunities here for diverse holiday days. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is worth deciding on your preferred travel rhythm at an early stage: Should the focus be on the water, nature or the stories of the place?

Vedåsa: waters, forests and diverse birdlife

An important natural area is the Vedåsa nature reserve. It includes the Helge å, Agunnarydssjön and the northern part of Lake Möckeln. The 368-hectare area consists mainly of aquatic habitats, broadleaf forests and pastureland. This brings together different types of landscape, which can be explored in various ways when planning a nature-focused trip.

Vedåsa also has a diverse birdlife. Among others, lesser spotted woodpeckers, tawny owls, hobbies and honey buzzards breed there. The endangered lesser spotted woodpecker is just as much a part of the nature reserve’s fauna as the endangered wels catfish. Those interested in birds, forest habitats or bodies of water can take this focus into account when choosing where to stay in Agunnaryd, without having to limit the trip to a single activity.

Water experiences on Agunnarydssjön and the Helge å

The bathing area in Agunnaryd is located on Lake Agunnarydssjön. For a stay featuring water-based experiences, this lake can therefore be planned as a separate item on the itinerary. You can begin a canoe adventure from one of the nearby lakes at Agunnarydssjön and paddle the Helge å canoe route.

One- or multi-day trips with overnight stays at established rest areas are possible on the Helge å canoe route. The Ryssby–Agunnaryd section is approximately 15 kilometres long. Agunnaryds Lanthandel rents canoes for canoeing experiences on the Helge å. You can also obtain detailed route maps, canoe permits and fishing permits there. There is also a food service area; the Lanthandel can put together meal packages. This combination of route planning, equipment and provisions is particularly interesting if you want to compare a single day of paddling with a longer tour.

Near Stockaland bad & rastplats is the Geten nature campsite, which has been equipped with electrical hook-ups. This information provides additional guidance for travellers who want to spend time in the countryside around Agunnaryd.

Historical traces in the village

Agunnaryd was centrally located in a prehistoric settlement landscape along a former transport route through Möckeln and Ryssbysjön. The history of the place therefore reaches back to a time when bodies of water and routes through the landscape played an important role. The local history of the churches can also be traced: most of Agunnaryd’s old church was demolished in 1872, when the new church was completed.

Another historical detail is the barn standing beside Agunnaryds hembygdsgård. It is an 18th-century building from the Ryssby parish. At Elmtåsa ängslada, there is seating indoors and a barbecue area behind the large stone. Alongside water and nature, such stops add further themes to a trip without requiring every day to be planned in the same way.

Agunnaryd as a starting point for planning your trip

Agunnaryd is a good fit for holidays where you want to combine different ideas for each day: a bathing area on Agunnarydssjön, a short or multi-day canoe tour on the Helge å, nature observations in Vedåsa and historical impressions in the village. When looking for accommodation, you can first decide which of these experiences are particularly important for your trip. This keeps your choice of holiday apartment or holiday home aligned with your planned activities, without requiring you to commit to a particular type of trip.
