Ätran – Lakes, Trails and Nature Experiences
Accommodation in Ätran
As a destination in the Falkenberg hinterland, Ätran combines nature experiences and activities with special excursions around Eseredssjön. Here, you can combine short waterside walks, longer tours, swimming, fishing, art and seasonal events. When choosing accommodation, the key question is therefore which activities should shape your stay: a relaxing day by the lake, a hike, a paddling trip or a varied leisure programme.
Water and trails around Ätran
Sjövikens Badanläggning is located in the centre of Ätran, directly beside Eseredssjön. It provides a good starting point for connecting the town and its waterscape in your plans. The circular route around Eseredssjön is 3.3 kilometres long and is suitable as a clearly defined walking or hiking loop in your day’s itinerary. Ätran is also home to Morfars glänta, between the bathing area and the shelter at Eseredssjön. The art experience along the Hallandsleden brings art and nature together there.
Eseredssjön also offers several described fishing opportunities: you can fish from a rowing boat or from several jetties. In addition to stocked rainbow trout, the lake is home to pike, bream, roach and perch. Those looking for accommodation in Ätran can make these water-based activities a focus of their trip without limiting their stay to a single activity.
Hiking, cycling and longer tours
Different types of routes are available for active days. The Ätranbaneleden runs via Ullared, Ätran and Fegen and is 24 kilometres long. The Hallandsleden section from Ätran to Långesjön passes Eseredssjön along the campsite. There are also training routes of varying lengths near the facilities and Eseredssjön for running, hiking and mountain biking.
Both the green and yellow hiking loops at Eseredssjön start at Ätrans skidcenter. Part of the green hiking loop follows the Hallandsleden; the same applies to part of the yellow hiking loop. This information can help you decide before booking a holiday apartment whether you would rather include a clearly named loop or a longer route in your travel plans. Mountain biking is also possible near Eseredssjön around the Ätrans Turist & Fritid facility.
If you are looking for a multi-day activity, the paddling route from Ätran to Falkenberg is offered as a three-day tour covering 43 kilometres. It includes five portages. This clearly distinguishes the tour from a short circular route or a single lake activity.
Swimming, cross-country skiing and events
Sjövikens Badanläggning has three heated outdoor pools: a 25-metre swimming pool with a 3-metre diving board, a 25-metre children’s pool and a paddling pool. If children are part of your travel plans, these specific facilities are just as relevant as the swimming school run by Ätrans Turist & Fritid, which takes place every summer for children aged 6 and over. Sjöbastun at Eseredssjön has its own bathing jetty.
There are also further options away from the water. Ätrans Skidcenter offers cross-country ski tracks of 3, 5, 7 and 10 kilometres. Ätrans IP has twelve 50-metre shooting lanes. During the season, Sjövikens Festplats is used for music events and evenings featuring traditional Swedish dance music. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore weigh up nature-based activities, sporting options and a seasonal cultural evening.
Further destinations to choose from
If you would like to compare other places in addition to Ätran, you can also view Olofsbo, Gällared, Älvsered, Grimsholmen, Okome, Vinberg, Glommen and Långås.
