Culture

The Iglesia Vieja de los Desamparados was originally an Arab mosque. Construction of the Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción began at the end of the 18th century to replace the former church. The new building combines elements of late Baroque and academic Neoclassicism and preserves a collection of goldsmiths’ work and liturgical ornaments.

A cypress-lined path with Stations of the Cross in chapel-like structures decorated with tiles from Alcora leads to the Ermita del Cristo del Calvario. The chapel itself has an octagonal floor plan and contains five frescoes by Joaquín Oliet from 1809 to 1810.

The Ermita de Sant Vicent was built at the beginning of the 17th century; the year 1614 is marked on the building. It is located beside the Mas dels Arcs path and the old Roman road. Its restoration created a recreational area around the building.

The Casa Fortificada de los Templarios is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural. It is also known as La Casa del Temple and was associated with knights of this military order. The building is a fortified residence with defensive elements and a pronounced military character.

The Portalet is the only surviving entrance to the castle. The three-storey building housing the Museu Almirez displays mortars used for industrial, culinary, decorative and other purposes.

Landscape

The Barranc de la Valltorta runs through the municipal areas of Tírig, Albocàsser and Les Coves. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1998. La Morería is a plant micro-reserve located beside the river, where old hydraulic mills have been preserved.

The Ruta dels Garrofers passes through landscapes characterised by carob trees. The Ruta dels Ametlers runs through agricultural landscapes with strong colour contrasts; during the flowering season in the second half of January and the first half of February, the fields are coloured by almond blossom.

Routes

The Ruta dels Garrofers is primarily designed for mountain bikes, but can also be completed on foot. The Ruta dels Molins is approximately 12 kilometres long and has a low difficulty level. Different route lengths and activity types help you organise the excursions according to your preferred daily rhythm.

The Ruta dels Molins is not signposted, runs along the San Miguel River and leads to traditional grain mills. The combination of the river and mills gives it a different character from the mountain-bike-oriented Ruta dels Garrofers and the Ruta dels Ametlers, which is seasonally defined by almond blossom.
