Nature and trails

From Els Ibarsos, numerous excursions, particularly suitable for walking, follow pleasant paths to Tossal de la Cova. In connection with the PR-CV 348, the Serra d'en Galceran is listed both as a ZEC (Zona de Especial Conservación) and as an SCI (Lugar de Importancia Comunitaria).

Geographical setting

East of the village, which is divided by a square, the regional road CV-15 runs almost parallel to Els Ibarsos. It connects the settlements Els Rosildos and Els Ibarsos to Albocácer in the north and to Vall d'Alba in the south.

Culture and customs

The Festes Patronals dels Ivarsos take place every year in May in honour of the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats. They last ten days and include activities for all age groups. Bullfighting events featuring a wide variety of breeding farms take place throughout the festival. Among the moments particularly significant to local residents are the offering and the mass in honour of the patron saint.

At the Festes de Sant Antoni als Ivarsos, the procession is named Sant Antoni and is called del Farolet. The front of the procession and some participants carry lanterns. The festival also includes a procession in which horses are led around a bonfire, followed by domestic animals from the village. To celebrate Sant Antoni, traditional Rotllos are distributed in Els Ibarsos.

The Parròquia de la Mare de Déu dels Desemparats dels Ibarsos has the status of a locally significant cultural asset (Bé de Rellevància Local) pursuant to the fifth additional provision of Law 5/2007 of 9 February of the Generalitat, amending Law 4/1998 of 11 June on Valencian cultural heritage. The Parròquia was built around 1985.

History

The earliest surviving historical records of Els Ivarsos date from 1583, when the Mas d'Els Ivarsos was established. In the Middle Ages, Els Ivarsos and the Rambla Carbonera were an extensive rural settlement (Masada) within the municipal area of La Serra d'en Galceran. In the Middle Ages, there was an inn near Els Ivarsos along the royal road from Valencia to Morella. In the 18th century, the population of the Masada grew with the construction of the Ermita dels Desemparats.
