Benissa: Coast, Culture and Nature

The coastal path thus combines a clearly defined route with changing impressions of the coastal area. Along the Paseo Ecológico de Benissa, information boards provide details about the history, vegetation and special features of the area; the path is also signposted throughout. Its length, the accompanying information and the continuous marking give the walk a recognisable structure.

Nature

Cala Baladrar lies between cliffs and pine trees that reach almost to the sea. There, clear water covers a pebble seabed. Cala de Pinets is a 60-metre-long and approximately 10-metre-wide pebble cove with calm, shallow water. A footpath with information boards about Benissa’s coastal area leads to Cala de Pinets. Snorkelling, diving, kayaking and hiking are possible at Cala de Pinets.

The coast therefore presents different landscapes side by side: Cala Baladrar is characterised by cliffs, pine trees and its pebble seabed, while Cala de Pinets is distinguished by its approximate dimensions, shallow water and the footpath described above. The activities mentioned at Cala de Pinets range from a walk along the shore to activities in the water.

In the immediate vicinity of Benissa are Tossal Gros and el Cau; both are mountains.

Activities

For cyclists, Benissa offers cycling routes for road bikes, mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The Benissa - Bernia BTT route is 35.40 kilometres long and classified as difficult; the Ruta del moscatell BTT measures 20.10 kilometres and is classified as easy.

The two BTT routes therefore differ significantly in terms of length and classification: the Benissa - Bernia BTT route represents 35.40 kilometres and a difficult classification, while the Ruta del moscatell BTT represents 20.10 kilometres and an easy classification. Together with the three types of bicycles mentioned, this creates a specific comparison between different forms of cycling.

Benissa’s clear coastal waters are suitable for diving, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. Thus, in addition to the cycling routes, several water sports are included in the coast’s offerings described here, while the Paseo Ecológico and the footpath to Cala de Pinets cover the areas of hiking and exploration.

Culture

Les Cases del Batlle houses the Espai d’Art Contemporani Salvador Soria in its historic manor house, promoting contemporary art. The Sala de Exposiciones Ajuntament Vell, a museum, is located in the vicinity of Benissa. Also in the surrounding area are Mirador Monte Toix, a viewpoint, as well as Benissa Playa and Playa La Galera, each a beach.

Castillo Moraira, a fortress, and Museu Ca Lambert, a museum, are also located in the vicinity of Benissa. Thus, the cultural and scenic selection includes both a place for contemporary art and further museums, as well as a viewpoint, beaches and a fortress.

Benissa celebrates the Fiestas Patronales in April in honour of the Purísima Xiqueta. The Moros y Cristianos festival takes place in Benissa in June. The two festivals therefore take place in different months and complement the places and coastal activities described as available year-round with events scheduled for specific times.
