Culture and history
The present-day church building in Benimarfull dates from 1663. Today, the parish museum is located in the church’s 25-metre-high bell tower. On 13 August 1611, Benimarfull received its Carta Puebla on the basis of the legal provisions issued by Sancho Ruiz de Liori Folch Borja y Cardona. The Benimarfull–Benillup Rectoría is considered the first known document in which the name Benimarfull appears. The Barranc del Sofre archaeological site in Benimarfull is classified as a settlement site.
Benimarfull’s August festival takes place on the first weekend of August in honour of Santa Ana, San Jaime and the Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte. The August festivities include a Moros y Cristianos parade and a procession in honour of Christ. Benimarfull’s public washhouse is considered a local site of interest.
The sulphur-calcium spring Fuente de Santa Ana in Benimarfull operated from 1847 to 1936; the associated spa was permanently closed in 1940. There are several sulphur springs in Benimarfull. A spa was built at one of them and operated until 1940. The former spa consisted of two large buildings with 70 rooms.
