History

The remains of the ancient Roman thermal bath Restos Antiguo Balneario Romano in Los Baños date from the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. These remains include a temple dedicated to a divine triad. The complex also includes a basin carved into the rock, where thermal water was collected.

Culture

The Santuario Romano Cueva Negra is located about 3 km from Fortuna in the Sierra del Baño. It is a pagan sanctuary with three rock overhangs. The Cueva Negra contains a significant number of painted Latin texts, known as “tituli picti”, including some of the oldest fragments of Virgil’s Aeneid.

The geological route passes the Iberian archaeological site of Castillejo de los Baños. The settlement of Castillejo de Los Baños, located on a hill, features the remains of houses built from stone. A cave leads to a network of galleries that occupies the entire site.
