The parish church of San Lorenzo in Ziga was built between 1593 and 1603 in the Herrerian style. Inside the church is a copy of Raphael’s “Virgen del Pez”. The main altar was transferred to Ziga in 1904 from the parish of San Nicolás in Pamplona.

Culture

Casa Indartea in the hamlet of Zigaurre has an unusual coat of arms, dated to the beginning of the 18th century. The coat of arms of Casa Iturrigaraia features small pieces of black fabric associated with the former mourning ritual following the death of a family member. The patron-saint festivities in Ziga take place on 10 August in honour of its patron saint, San Lorenzo. The village landscape thus features both individual house emblems and the church feast day as distinct cultural points of reference.

Views and landscape

The Mirador de Baztan lies between Ziga and the hamlet of Zigaurre and offers views over the northern part of the valley. These views include Irurita, Lekaroz, Gartzain, Elizondo and Elbete. At the end of the PR-NA 1 Abartan route, two sections between Berroeta and Ziga run along the road NA-2540, which has no edge strips. The routes can therefore be understood through several distinct features: the regional connection between Bayonne and Pamplona, the descending branch to Ziga, archaeological monuments along the PR-NA 1 Abartan route and the explicitly mentioned road section at the end of the route.
