Arizcun showcases Basque culture not only in its buildings, but also in cider, festivals and a pilgrimage route. The Santxotena Museum-Park in the Bozate district is an open-air museum that focuses primarily on Basque mythology through wooden sculptures. Its collection includes wooden figures of Lamias and Mikeldis. An accessible footpath leads through eight bordas, which recreate traditional shepherds’ huts from the Pyrenees.

The Palacio de Ursua stands in the Bozate district. It is a medieval defensive tower regarded as the cradle of one of Navarre’s oldest noble families. In the Ordoki district there is a Laxoa court associated with one of the oldest variants of the Basque game of pelota; it was formerly played by shepherds in the mountains. Arizkun’s patronal festival is celebrated on 24 June in honour of San Juan Bautista. The carnival celebrations of Arizkun are noted for their distinctive ethnographic character.

Cider and Local Life

Another focus is cider. In Arizkun, visitors can tour the 18th-century Gamioxarrea cider press, where they can see how cider is made. Guided tours of the cider press provide insights into cider and apple culture. The cultural association Jo ala Jo organises the Kirikoketa every year, demonstrating how cider was made in the past; it normally takes place in Arizkun in autumn.
