Arribe – Culture, Trails and the Visible Malloas
Arribe is regarded as a place with a medieval character. The Church of San Miguel was built in the Middle Ages and preserves a valuable 15th-century depiction in one of its altarpieces. The main altarpiece dates from the 17th century. The Malloas are also visible from Arribe.
Culture
At the base of the tower of San Miguel, a pointed arch allows road traffic to pass through. Arribe is also home to the hermitages of Virgen del Camino and Santa Agueda. One of the town’s notable buildings is Batzarre Etxea: it houses two art galleries, the larger of which is called Mallope.
Batzarre Etxea dates from 1511 and was once a meeting place for the inhabitants of the valley. The house of Juan Gorriti in Arribe serves as a residence, studio, workshop and art gallery. Sacred architecture, historic buildings and contemporary-oriented art spaces stand side by side here, without cultural exploration being limited to a single sight.
Trails and Landscape
A stone bridge in Arribe crosses the Araxes River and connects the road with the old path to Gorriti. The PR-NA 306 Uba-Artegieta circular hiking trail begins in Arribe, passes through Uba, Pagozelai and Atallu, follows the Araxes and completes the loop there. Buildings and the route itself offer different focal points; for day planning, visitors can distinguish between a more town-focused cultural visit and a longer circuit.
Festivals and Products
Arribe’s local festivals take place on the third weekend of July. On 29 September, Arribe celebrates the feast day of Saint Michael, the town’s patron saint. Culinary events are also part of the regional events calendar: the Araizko Zaporeen Feria gives visitors the opportunity to buy and taste local quality products.
The wine tasting includes three carefully selected quality wines from local organic wineries. The programme announced for the 2026 market in Arribe included a tasting and a competition featuring Mendialdea cheeses. The ninth edition of the Araizko Zaporeen Feria was announced for 26 October 2025 in Arribe’s square, in the Araitz Valley.
The opening event for the seventh edition of the Mercado Itinerante de Mendialdea, called Mendialdeko Azoka Ibiltaria in Basque, was announced for 19 April 2026 in Arribe. The dates mentioned combine local festivals, wine and regional products with changing market formats.
Practical Information
The public electric vehicle charging station in Arribe can charge two vehicles at the same time. Another public electric vehicle charging station is available to visitors in the car park next to Araitz Town Hall.
For a holiday apartment in Arribe, the travel period, size and cancellation conditions can be considered separately from the local attractions. Culture, trails, regional products and landscape therefore stand as distinct aspects of trip planning, without a choice of accommodation already requiring a particular local exploration itinerary.
