In its historic centre, Aibar displays a historic urban fabric: streets and houses wind uphill in semicircular patterns towards a former complex crowned by a fortified wall. The highest point of Aibar Hill is at the Portal de la Hueca; this is where the first settlement was protected by a defensive castle that has since disappeared.

Culture
The sacred history of Aibar includes the Parroquia de San Pedro de Aibar and the Iglesia de San Pedro in Aibar. The parish church is considered an important example of Navarrese Romanesque architecture and one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Navarre; it also features monumental sculpture. The church combines Romanesque and Gothic stylistic elements, and its origins date back to 1146. It was originally a three-nave building with three semicircular apses, with the central nave wider than the side aisles.
The Casa-museo de los Oficios y la Memoria de Aibar conveys the region’s traditional culture, its former way of life and the town’s intangible cultural heritage through wine, oil and grain. Guided tours including a tasting are available by prior arrangement.
Experiences
The Aula de Energías Renovables has two large exhibition areas and an audiovisual room. Information panels, models illustrating the various types of renewable energy and videos form part of the exhibition. Visits to renewable energy facilities in the comarca are organised from the Aula de Energías Renovables; there are also experimental activities using natural fuels under the motto “Hazlo tú mism@”.
About 3 km from Aibar is Artamendia Aventura, an adventure park in nature beneath an old oak forest. The activities mentioned there include treetop activities, swings, nets, zip lines and suspension bridges. Artamendia Aventura has two tree-based courses with different levels of difficulty, which share the same area in Artamendia’s centuries-old oak forest. The Circuito de Iniciación is designed for children aged 3 and over. The surroundings of Artamendia also feature a circular trail of approximately 5 km with no significant difference in elevation. The different courses and the stated trail length allow for comparison by activity and route extent.
Nature
The Balsa de La Mueda is a 12-hectare natural wetland. Migratory birds such as bitterns, storks and cranes can be found there. The birdwatching observatory at the Balsa consists of a simple wooden hut with viewing slits from which birds can be observed.
