La Matilla – Festivals, Culture and the Camino de San Frutos

La Matilla has an official flag and an official coat of arms. The village is also associated with a centuries-old festival tradition, artisanal sausage production and the Sierra section of the Camino de San Frutos, which passes through La Matilla. Culture

At the entrance to La Matilla, the Church of the Immaculate Conception stands out. The Nuestra Señora del Carmen hermitage is also located at the entrance to the village. Embutidos La Matillana is a family business based at C/ Montaña, 14, La Matilla, Segovia. The company is primarily dedicated to the artisanal production of sausages in Segovia. The connection to regional production is therefore linked to a specific name and precise location.

Routes

The Sierra section of the Camino de San Frutos passes through Pedraza, Orejanilla, La Matilla, Valdesaz and Consuegra de Murera. On the Camino de San Frutos, hikers follow the signs at an information board until they reach a trail marker stone. The sequence of village names describes the route through several stages, while the information board and marker stone form a separate point of orientation along the route. For personal planning, the sequence of stages and the trail marking can therefore be considered separately.

Surroundings

The Castle of Turégano is located in the wider regional area around La Matilla. Also in the wider regional area are the El Mirador viewpoint, La Cebollera mountain, Nevera peak, Peñacabra peak and Rubio mountain. The Hoces del rio Duraton park is also located in the surroundings of La Matilla. This spatial distinction is itself a useful way of viewing the area: the park belongs to the surroundings, while the other destinations mentioned belong to the wider regional area.
