These three details keep the decision aligned with your own travel plans; landscapes, trails, bodies of water and buildings are independent themes of the town.
Nature and Trails
The Senda de la Vega connects Carrascal Del Río with Burgomillodo. Along the route, two clearly different ecosystems can be observed: a riverside forest with various moisture-dependent species and a habitat on shifting sands in which the maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.) stands out.
The Área Recreativa de Carrascal del Río recreation area has tables, benches and swings that visitors can use for eating and resting. For longer hiking days, the almost 15-kilometre Barrancos del Duratón circular route is a good option. It is divided into sections, marked and signposted throughout, equipped with numerous information panels, and runs between Carrascal del Río and Castrojimeno.
On the route to the Ermita de San Frutos, there is a viewpoint over the Río Duratón from which the Embalse de Burgomillodo reservoir can be seen.
Water and Activities
Burgomillodo, which belongs to Carrascal Del Río in the province of Segovia, is one of the larger centres for water sports, kayaking and rowing in Castilla y León.
Culture and History
The Ermita de San Frutos is located within the municipality of Carrascal Del Río, although it belongs to the district of Burgomillodo. On 3 June 1931, it was declared a historic-artistic monument and a Bien de Interés Cultural. The Priory of San Frutos, now known as the Ermita de San Frutos, consists of the remains of a former monastic convent. Beside the apse, a Visigothic necropolis lies among the remains of the former priory. The complex is accessed via an 18th-century stone bridge that crosses the rocky cleft known as “La Cuchillada”.
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a single-nave Romanesque building with a semicircular apse and a tower attached to the end of the nave. Its Baroque entrance portal was created in the 18th century.
Las Candelas and San Blas are celebrated with masses on 2 and 3 February. On San Blas Day, there is also a procession with pastries and wine.
La Hacendera takes place on Shrove Tuesday. The residents of Carrascal Del Río carry out work for the benefit of the town; afterwards, the municipal administration invites them to a meal.
The Carrascal smithy preserves its wooden and leather bellows, forge with smoke hood and quenching trough. The ensemble comprising the settlement, wine cellars, smithy, mill and sheepfolds was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural on 25 June 1965.
