Culture and History

Quemada is home to the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, with a tower dating from the 13th century. The parish church has a Baroque high altar with a Gothic seated Madonna and Child. The same parish church contains another altar with a Gothic crucifix. On the outskirts of the town, there is a hermitage dedicated to San Roque.

In the La Madre area of Quemada, a monastic settlement was built in the 6th century over the ruins of a Roman villa for the purposes of evangelisation. The Puente Romano de la Tejera is a three-arched bridge spanning the Arandilla River. Quemada celebrates the feast of San Roque on 16 August.
