Padiernos between the Valle Amblés and Sierra de Ávila

The approximately 118-kilometre Teresian Route between Arenas de San Pedro and Ávila passes through Padiernos. The village is located in the Valle Amblés on the southern slope of the Sierra de Ávila. Church and architecture

The Iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora was built in the 18th century on the site of the former San Marcos chapel. The presbytery contains three altarpieces: The main altarpiece is Baroque and influenced by Churriguerism. The two smaller side altarpieces are also Baroque and contain panels from the 16th century attributed to the painter Diego Rosales. The church has a single nave; at the foot of the building there is a double bell opening in an espadaña. Archaeology and history

North of Padiernos, the Castro de los Castillejos is located high in the Sierra, where the municipal boundary borders Sanchorreja. The Castro Celta de los Castillejos consists of three areas: Two served as residential areas, while the third was used to house livestock. There are also archaeological sites from Roman times within the municipality. The abandoned settlement of Adijos belonged to the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Ávila. The chronology of the area's history is therefore represented by a Celtic settlement, Roman archaeological sites and an abandoned settlement with monastic affiliation.

Culture in the village

The ethnographic museum in Padiernos has a garden with plant species typical of the region. The Vía Crucis belongs to a type of Stations of the Cross traditionally established in dangerous places such as fields or village entrances and used as symbolic protection against external dangers. A recurring annual festival is also part of village life: the Festividad de los Sagrados Corazones is traditionally celebrated in Padiernos every year.
