Parderrubias: Historic Centre, Culture and Festivals in Galicia

The Camiño de San Rosendo e da Rainha Santa passes through Parderrubias and connects the village with a traditional historic centre. The Igrexa de Santa Olaia de Parderrubias is a landmark in the village. The parish church of Santa Olaia has a neoclassical façade, thereby combining the local religious architecture with a clearly recognisable architectural style. Landscape

The landscape around Parderrubias is complemented by several named mountains. Monte Calvo is a mountain in the vicinity of the village. Sierra Moura and Monte San Trocao are also located there as mountains. The three landscape names therefore represent different points in the mountainous surroundings of Parderrubias, without being able to be grouped into a single mountain range.

Another green attraction is the Botánico de Montealegre, a garden located in the surroundings of Parderrubias. Together with Monte Calvo, Sierra Moura and Monte San Trocao, it broadens the landscape perspective to include a botanical site. Traditions and Festivals

The Magosto in Parderrubias is part of the local annual calendar. At this popular chestnut festival, the residents of the parish gather together. The event has been held for more than two decades. In the parish of Parderrubias, Magosto has also been celebrated regularly for years in November around San Martiño. The time of year, its many years of continuity and its connection with chestnuts are therefore among the defining features of this festival.

Corpus Christi is considered the most important festival in the parish of Parderrubias. In the lead-up to the festival, the parish holds sports activities, children's games and other leisure activities. Alongside the religious occasion, the celebrations therefore also include a programme with various activities. Magosto and Corpus Christi represent two different focal points in the events calendar: the chestnut festival in November around San Martiño on the one hand, and the festival considered particularly important, with activities held beforehand, on the other.
