History and Culture

Ansemil is home to the former Rectoral de Ansemil, housed in a building dating from 1772 next to the church and cemetery of Ansemil. The building dates from that year and was restored for rural tourism in 2005. Its original structure and original elements were preserved. The Rectoral de Ansemil also highlights the use of old stone ovens as a special feature. Thus, this building combines a preserved historic structure with a specific detail of traditional cuisine.

Castromao can be visited freely; guided tours are available by reservation for groups of ten or more. For guided visits, current opening days should be checked before the visit. At cultural sites, opening days and tour times are part of the planning process. A self-guided visit and a group tour requiring a reservation therefore require different preparations.

At the Monastery of San Salvador in Celanova, guided tours are offered from Tuesday to Saturday and also include the Chapel of San Miguel in Celanova. The monastery and chapel are therefore part of a joint tour offering. The keep in Vilanova dos Infantes can also be visited. The cultural sites are thus spread across Castromao, Celanova and Vilanova dos Infantes, ranging from a freely accessible site and organised tours to a single keep. When planning such visits, it is advisable to check the current tour days and start times for each site before travelling.

Other places: Os Blancos, Reboredo, Abelleira, Sobreira, O Irixo, Cartelle, Pinza, A Gudiña

Routes and Transport

In the wider area around Ansemil, the Camino Natural del Interior San Rosendo runs from Celanova to Ourense. A renovated footbridge over the Ourille River near Os Muíños forms a circular route for residents of Os Muíños and Sorga; people now come to the bridge to look at it and cross it. Those planning to use the route should check current route conditions and any possible changes to its course before travelling. For routes and circular walks, the current course is part of the preparation, while request stops should be checked according to their current timetable.

The public demand-responsive transport service XG60302101 includes Lamas de Ansemil as a request stop. At a request stop, checking the current timetable is also part of the usual preparation for a journey.

Events

The festival venue is considered to be directly accessible from the AG-31 Ourense–Celanova motorway. Anyone travelling via the AG-31 should check the current traffic and route conditions in advance.

The second edition of Ansemil Fest was scheduled for 2 April 2026 in the industrial estate of Celanova. A festival featuring Os Caliqueños as the opening act, Olympus and a DJ session lasting into the early hours was announced for 30 May in the municipality's industrial estate. For announced events, the date and schedule should be checked again before travelling.

For the main travel overview: Ourense.
