Chantada: Trails, Vineyards and Cultural Heritage
A year-round official walking route starts at Praza Santa Ana in Chantada. It leads from the town centre to the Asma riverbanks and on to the Sangoñedo recreational area; the route measures 2.3 km.
Trails and Landscape
A riverside promenade stretches for 2 km along both banks of the Asma River. It runs from Alameda Xavier Costa Clavell to the Sangoñedo recreational area.
Between Belesar and Chantada, the difference in elevation between the Miño Valley and the surrounding plain is 300 m. The sunlit slopes are covered with terraced vineyards. These vineyards are cultivated as part of “heroic viticulture”.
Monte Faro is designated as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network.

Culture and History
The Casona de Lemos dates back to the 16th century. Today, it serves as Chantada’s cultural centre, municipal tourist information office and exhibition hall.
The Church of Santa María de Pesqueiras was recognised by decree of 16 October 1950 as a cultural asset in the category of historic-artistic monument.
The Monastery of San Salvador de Asma was established in the final years of the 10th century.
Festivals and Culinary Tradition
The Folión de Carros takes place as part of Chantada’s patron saint festivities on the Saturday of the fourth weekend in August. It has been recognised as a festival of tourist interest since 2002; since 2018, it has been classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
Entroido Ribeirao is celebrated in the parish of Santiago da Riba on four traditional days.
These days are called Lambedoiro Sunday, Corredoiro Sunday, Entroido Sunday and Entroido Tuesday.
Volantes, Peliqueiros or Maragatos, as well as Mecos, take part in the celebrations.
Chantada’s local culinary tradition includes, among other dishes, Pulpo á feira, Lacón con grelos and Cocido. Sausages, veal and wine with the Ribeira Sacra designation of origin are also part of it.
Liqueurs and spirits are also part of the tradition. Traditional baked goods include Empanada and Tarta de almendra.
Culture
Santa María de Nogueira de Miño is a Romanesque church from the second half of the 12th century.
Inside, it preserves Mannerist murals from the 16th century attributed to Mestre de Nogueira.
The murals depict, among other scenes, the Resurrection of Christ, the Last Judgment, the Ascension and the Annunciation.
San Miguel do Monte preserves murals from the 15th century.
The murals include a depiction of the Descent from the Cross.
