Culture and History

Santa Mariña de Tosto leads to a church site with an older monastic history. The site of the Igrexa Parroquial de Santa Mariña de Tosto was previously home to the Benedictine monastery of Santa Marina de Tosto, which was rebuilt twice. The former monastic use is therefore directly part of the history of the site where the parish church stands. The church and monastery are connected at the same site, while the two rebuilds belong to the history of the Benedictine monastery.

Routes to the Igrexa

The Igrexa Parroquial de Santa Mariña de Tosto can be reached via the AC-432 road from Ponte do Porto to Camariñas and the turnoff to Santa Mariña near Xaviña. An alternative route to the Igrexa Parroquial de Santa Mariña de Tosto leads via the road to Camelle, the turnoff onto the road to Arou, and then along a coastal path to Santa Mariña. The route via the AC-432 and the alternative sequence via Camelle, Arou and the coastal path involve different sections of the journey, but both lead to the stated church site. For coastal paths, checking current route conditions is part of travel preparation, because planning is based on the route conditions in force at the time. Visitors should also check the current opening hours before traveling when planning visits to church sites. Coast and Beach

The small sandy beach Playa de Santa Mariña lies at the foot of Monte Branco. Playa de Santa Mariña is a quiet place for swimming and has moderate waves as well as the wind characteristic of this coast. The sandy beach, calm swimming conditions, moderate waves and typical coastal wind therefore all belong to the same beach section at Monte Branco.
