Outes: Praia de Broña, Muíños de Albeida and historic bridges

In Outes, Praia de Broña is a semi-urban, 475 m long and 20 m wide cove with white sand, sheltered from northerly winds.

Beaches and estuaries

Praia de Broña offers showers, waste bins, a cleaning service, a children's area and an area for scuba diving.

Praia de Broña is considered suitable for sailing, board sports and windsurfing.

The Tambre Estuary near Ponte Nafonso is part of the Esteiro do Tambre Natura 2000 site, which also includes the lower Tins Estuary and the inner section of the Ría de Muros e Noia.

The Tins River estuary at Langaño is considered a particularly beautiful estuary with a habitat of great landscape, botanical and faunal importance.

At 531 m, Monte Tremuzo is the highest point in Outes and offers a panorama of the Ría de Muros e Noia.

Other destinations: A Baña, Gondollín, Reborido, Nemiña, Betanzos, Foro, Cuíña and Tarrío.

Hiking trails and river routes

The Muíños de Albeida comprise eight mills arranged along the slope of the stream that feeds them; a signposted hiking trail also begins there.

The Ruta Albán-Tremuzo is approximately 14 km long and starts in the area of the Muíños de Albeida.

The Ruta Langaño–Tremuzo is a 26.8 km moderately difficult circular route with a maximum elevation of 514 m and a cumulative elevation gain of 814 m.

The Ruta Langaño–Tremuzo passes the Fontemoureira petroglyphs.

The Ruta dos Carpinteiros cos Pés Mollados is an easy 16.5 km out-and-back hike.

The Paseo fluvial del Tins is an approximately 3 km long riverside walk that follows both banks of the river near its mouth in Serra de Outes.

The Paseo fluvial de A Ponte Nafonso follows the Tambre Estuary and offers views of A Ponte Nafonso.

The kayak route on the Tambre runs from the Tambre hydroelectric power station to the mouth at Ponte Nafonso and passes through riverside woodland and reed beds.

Culture and history

A Ponte Nafonso is a 270 m long bridge over the Tambre with 20 arches; several of them are pointed arches, indicating an origin in the late Middle Ages.

The Ponte da Serra over the Tins has a single pointed arch measuring 14 m in length and 7 m in height.

The Crucero de A Barreira dates from the 16th to the 18th century.

The Pazo da Serra in the centre of Serra de Outes is privately owned and was built from an old medieval fortress, of which two walls remain.

The Capela da Nosa Señora do Rial was built in 1668 and has a rectangular nave.

The Capela da Nosa Señora do Rial includes a walled enclosure, the remains of a 16th-century tower, a cruceiro created by Escultor Ferreiro and a fountain.

The Estaleiro de Ciprián Museum was created through the extensive renovation of an abandoned shipyard in Broña Bay, while preserving the character of boatbuilding.

The Camiño Xacobeo Ría de Muros e Noia was officially recognised as a pilgrimage route to Santiago on 15 December 2020, and Outes is one of the municipalities through which it passes.

The Romería de San Campio takes place on 29 September in the parish church of Santo Ourente, where the saint's relics are kept; it is one of the best-known festivals in Outes and the neighbouring municipalities.

Cuisine and local traditions

The seasonal harvesting of Pipións (Ammodytes lancea) at Praia da Barquiña takes place at the end of December and in January; at low tide, the fish are dug out of the sand and usually fried.

Outes cuisine combines shellfish, crustaceans and fish from the rías with traditionally reared meat and vegetables from family gardens.

Other activities

The Centro Náutico de O Freixo offers sailing courses.

The port of O Freixo is suitable for recreational boats.

Canyoning on the Ribeiriños River is a technical activity of intermediate difficulty with seven rappels and requires some experience.

Karting Ayrton Senna in A Serra de Outes has a 600 m long track and kart types for different age groups: from 5 years old, from 12 years old and for adults over 12.
