Nature and Trails

Siruela is surrounded by characteristic dehesa landscapes. The municipality has numerous officially designated and well-signposted trails for hiking and cycling. The trails can be explored on foot or by bicycle, combining an experience of nature with physical activity. The Senda de la Cañada de Las Urracas branches off from the Cañada Real Segoviana. The Fiesta de la Trasterminancia takes place along it around November. Siruela is also part of the Camino de los Mineros.

The Senda de la Sierra de Siruela runs between the municipalities of Siruela and Garlitos and leads to the Mirador de la Motilla, which offers views of the wildlife and plant life of the sierra. Numerous bird species can be observed in Siruela, including Egyptian vultures, golden eagles, Bonelli’s eagles and eagle owls. The different trail and nature themes can be arranged in your daily planning according to your preferred activity and focus of observation.

Culture and History

The Iglesia Ntra Sra de la Antigua may date from around 1250. In the central nave, it has a wooden artesonado ceiling with star-shaped filigree decoration. Its exterior structure includes a tower that apparently once had battlements; the shape of the tower has led some to assume that, under the influence of the Templars, it was a fortified religious building.

The Paredones, known as “La Cava”, are the ruins of a 13th-century Templar castle; only a few remains survive, known as the “Paredones”. A 16th-century building preserves a chapel with a round-arched portal and two columns. The Centro Cultural Francisco de Bargas “El Perulero” hosts theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events throughout the year.

Festivals and Flavours

Día del bodigo is celebrated in the countryside on 1 November and is dedicated to Siruela’s traditional bodigo, which is prepared especially for All Saints’ Day. Bodigo consists of bread filled with meat and slaughter products, covered with sugar, almonds and hard-boiled egg, and baked in a wood-fired oven. Siruela’s cuisine particularly includes products from traditional home slaughtering and the enjoyment of cheese.

The Feria ganadera includes livestock auctions, animal exhibitions and morphological competitions. The Clarisse nuns’ pastry shop is located on Plaza de Santa Clara and is open to the public.
