Nature and Trails

The Ruta del Vent is a circular hike starting in the Torre Vella residential development in the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí. From there, it heads north into the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter and follows the GR-92. The route is 6.9 km long and classified as easy; its estimated duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Northeast of the Torre Vella residential development, there is an entrance to the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter. The GR-92 also runs along this entrance. La Torre Vella is also a stop on the Baix Ter R1 route between Torroella de Montgrí, the residential developments and L'Estartit.

The Ruta del Vent therefore combines the starting point in Torre Vella, the northern section into the natural park and the section of the GR-92. The information on length, difficulty level and duration describes the circular route as a clearly defined trail. The entrance in the northeast additionally provides a second geographical reference to the natural park and the long-distance trail running through it.

Geographical Setting

The Montplà summit is located in the immediate vicinity of La Torre Vella. The beaches Platja de la Gola del Ter, Cala Mongó and Playa De Gola are located in the wider surrounding area of La Torre Vella.

History

The Greek necropolis of El Portitxol is located in the wider surrounding area of La Torre Vella. The museum Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya - Ullastret is also located in the wider surrounding area of La Torre Vella. The Ullastret archaeological site is located there. The museum Ruïnes d'Empúries is located in the wider surrounding area of La Torre Vella.

The route of La Duna continental del Montgrí passes the restored Barraca Trobada. The Barraca d’en Xeu is also located along this route. It is a fairly large and well-preserved dry-stone construction. Various pine species can be observed on the La Duna continental del Montgrí route. These pines were planted to stabilise the dune sand.

An old well was renovated in 1847 by the Ayuntamiento de Torroella de Montgrí. The renovation was intended to ensure the water supply and meet the needs of the inhabitants of the massif.

The historical sites in the wider surrounding area thus include a Greek necropolis, a museum, an archaeological site and the Ruïnes d'Empúries, which are considered a museum. On the La Duna continental del Montgrí route, by contrast, structures and landscape elements occur together: the barracas form part of the route, while the planted pines are connected with the stabilisation of the dune sand. The well renovated in 1847 adds a reference to the former water supply of the massif to these testimonies.
