La Selva de Mar combines short local walks, hiking trails and historical discoveries. Nature, architectural heritage and local delicacies each offer a different focus.

Hiking between the Village and the Nature Park

In Cap de Creus Natural Park, the “Circular de La Selva de Mar” loop trail covers 3.5 kilometres with 120 metres of elevation gain, an estimated walking time of 1 hour and 15 minutes, and an easy difficulty level. In La Selva de Mar, there is the 15- to 20-minute village walk “Itinerari de La Selva de Mar”. A restored and signposted path leads from La Selva de Mar via the Camí de les Suredes to the Dolmen de la Taula dels Lladres. La Taula dels Lladres in la Selva de Mar is a site of interest in Cap de Creus Natural Park. A connecting route leads from the Monestir de Sant Pere de Rodes via the Camí dels Gatiens to La Selva de Mar. Another path passes the public washhouse and the Font de Mollor and runs through a cork oak grove via the Camí del Dijous.

Buildings with a Long History

The Església Sant Esteve dates from the 16th century and was built in the Late Gothic style. The original building of the Església Sant Sebastià dates from the 10th century. Several defensive towers from the 16th and 17th centuries have been preserved in La Selva de Mar; the defensive wall of La Selva de Mar protected the village from pirates. The Ponts de la Riera are stone bridges from the 17th and 18th centuries. During the Spanish Civil War, the Església Sant Esteve was blown up, resulting in the loss of the entire façade and the interior altarpiece.

Water, Fountains and Cultural Sites

The Riera de la Selva de Mar runs through the village of the same name. The Salt del molí waterfall takes its name from an old mill that stood there until the 17th century. The Font de Mollor consists of a broad semicircular arch structure made of slate slabs and features a vaulted cistern and a continuous stone bench. The municipal washhouse Safareig municipal was built in 1926 and is associated with Catalonia’s architectural heritage. Multiespai El Trull is a historic building that has been converted into a cultural multi-purpose space with an olive oil museum and exhibitions.

Memory, Language and Local Delicacies

The Font dels Lledoners forms part of Tomàs Garcés’s poetic landscape; one of his sayings is located there. The former schools of the Centre Cultural Les Escoles were built during the Second Republic. The hermitage of Sant Sebastià is associated with la Selva de Mar and Cadaqués. Wine tastings are offered at La Botigueta del Trull, while Mas Estela offers tours and tastings. In La Selva de Mar, the Castanyada is celebrated as an annual tradition with chestnuts, panellets and Garnatxa.
