Fontanilles: Landscape, Castellot and Sant Martí

Landscape

Fontanilles lies on the summits of two small hills. Most of the municipality consists of an alluvial plain. Gentle hills rise to the west. From Fontanilles or Puig de Miramar, there are sweeping views across the cultivated landscape of the plain. Rows of willows and poplars border this cultivated landscape. Fontanilles has been documented since 965. The church of Sant Martí de Fontanilles was consecrated in 965. Arnulf, the bishop of Girona, consecrated the church.
