Esclanyà is known for its peaceful Romanesque village centre with the small Sant Esteve church and the castle. The settlement is arranged around Sant Esteve d’Esclanyà. The church contains Romanesque elements from different periods dating back to the 10th century, indicating the existence of an earlier place of worship. Castell d’Esclanyà is a Romanesque castle and a 14th-century building. It was first documented in 1362, although its origins date back further. Today, only the large rectangular tower of the castle remains. Castell has the status of a cultural asset of national interest. The small, compact group of farmhouses that makes up Esclanyà was built between the 16th and 18th centuries around the church and castle, in the area between the castle and the stream.
