Horche can be explored through specific cultural sites, wine traditions, festivals and countryside routes.

Culture

In the historic centre of Horche, the Museo Etnográfico is located in a traditional dwelling. The public museum provides insights into historical agriculture and livestock farming, traditional occupations and folk crafts.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a Renaissance building from the 16th century. The Ermita de San Sebastián is considered to be a Romanesque pilgrimage chapel from the 12th century.

The Plaza Mayor features arcades, stone columns and traditional façades. The Ermita de la Soledad is associated with the patron saint of the municipality of Horche.

In the lower part of Horche’s historic centre, the San Juan de la Penitencia building was founded in 1602 by the theologian Jerónimo de la Rua.

The Fuente Vieja and Lavadero complex includes a washhouse from 1578, which was built onto the Fuente Vieja from 1553. A spring in Horche was built in 1570 to supply a growing settlement with water, as the Fuente Vieja could no longer meet demand.

Wine and Festivals

Many of the traditional wine cellars in Horche date from the 15th and early 16th centuries. The guided Ruta de Bodegas includes a visit to two wine cellars and a wine tasting.

The Hogueras de la Purísima in Horche are classified as a tradition of provincial tourist interest. They are celebrated on 7 December, the day before the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and date back to the 17th century.

The Fiestas Patronales en honor a la Virgen de la Soledad bring residents, visitors and associations together for religious, musical, cultural and bullfighting-related events.

The Feria Chica in Horche is an event initiated by the local population, featuring live music as well as running of the bulls or bullfights, and has existed for more than two decades.

The Concurso del Vino “Villa de Horche” was held as its 45th edition, featuring the judging of wine samples, a traditional meal of migas and the announcement of the winning wines. The Festival de Música y Cine in Horche was announced as its fifth edition, with live music and a screening of a silent film accompanied by piano.

Countryside

The 15-kilometre circular route La Vega del Ungría passes through the municipal areas of Horche and Lupiana. It offers views of the Vega of Horche, the Matayeguas Valley and the Vega of the Ungría, and passes through a distinctly Alcarrian landscape.

The La Fuensanta route offers views of the Vega of Horche and the Vega of the Ungría and runs entirely within the municipal area of Horche.

The route ¿Qué es la Alcarria? runs alongside olive groves and offers views of the Sierra del Picuzo and the Vegas of Horche and the Ungría. This route also runs entirely within the municipal area of Horche.

The Subica del Picuzo route leads to an Ermita dedicated to the Virgen Dulce and to a viewpoint with panoramic views over the valleys of the Tajuña and the Ungría. It runs entirely within the municipal area of Horche.
