Villapresente is home to the Laberinto de Villapresente, an intricate cypress maze covering an area of 5,625 m². It has a Victorian style and is suitable for the whole family. The maze is located next to the cultural centre, the plain along the Saja River and the historic buildings. As a result, experiences, culture, nature and history are present in different places throughout Villapresente.

The Laberinto de Villapresente adds its own distinctive feature alongside the cultural centre, the plain along the Saja River and the historic buildings. In Villapresente, these different places bring together a cypress maze, contemporary culture, an ecologically valuable riverside landscape and historical evidence.

Culture and Experiences

The Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo de Reocín in Villapresente houses a cultural centre for exhibitions, concerts, conferences and presentations. During the restoration of the former Escuelas Pías building, its original floor plan and the essential building materials were preserved. Thus, alongside the contemporary cultural centre, the townscape also features a building with a preserved historical structure.

The present-day centre is associated with various types of events, while the former Escuelas Pías building has retained its original architectural structure. Contemporary use and historic building fabric stand side by side within the same complex.

Nature

In 2025, the El Pavón power station in Villapresente was placed under protection as a “Bien de Interés Local” in the “Monumento” category. The site of the El Pavón power station lies on the Saja River in an ecologically valuable plain characterised by riverside vegetation and various animal species. The remains of the El Pavón power station and its chimney form an archaeological site of industrial and cultural heritage. At El Pavón, riverside vegetation, various animal species and the remains of the power station with its chimney come together. The site therefore combines the ecological plain along the Saja River with industrial and cultural heritage.

History

The Torre de Villapresente belonged to the Velasco family and is designated as open to visitors. The Church of San Juan in Villapresente and its cemetery are documented from 1097 onwards. The baptismal font from the original church is still preserved in the Church of San Juan; the original church was handed over to the Abbey of Santa Juliana in 1097.

The Torre de Villapresente, the Church of San Juan, its cemetery and the preserved baptismal font document different aspects of the town’s history.
