Orejo: Churches, Pilgrimage History and Festivals

The annual Festival Intercéltico Marina de Cudeyo takes place in the Robledal de Orejo. The XXIX Festival Intercéltico de Orejo will be held there from 11 to 13 September 2026.

Culture

The Iglesia de Santiago in Orejo was built in the 16th century and altered in the 17th century through the addition of a chapel and a tower. The presbytery of the Iglesia de Santiago contains a high altarpiece from 1653 with sculptural depictions of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. The Casona de Cagigas, also known as the Palacio de La Sota, dates from the late 17th century or the first half of the 18th century. It belonged to the Villa y Agüero family. The present-day Ermita Virgen del Carmen is thought to have replaced an earlier chapel on the same site in the Middle Ages. It was formerly known as Nuestra Señora del Camino; this name refers to Orejo's Jacobean tradition and the pilgrimage route for which the village was known on the original Roman coastal road of the Romeros.
