Hiking Around Lon
The PR-PNPE 27 circular hiking route runs through the area around Lon, from Brez to the Canal de las Arredondas. It is 5.4 kilometres long, includes 270 metres of ascent and descent, and takes around two hours; the difficulty level is low. Landscape and Mountains
The Solar Serna of Lon lies amid an extensive meadow between the village to the south and a group of winter meadows with a hut to the north. Several paths provide access to the area; the two most important ones begin in the village of Lon. The deeply cut Burón River forms the boundary on the western side of the village and also borders the Solar Serna. Mount Morra de Lechugales is located in the immediate vicinity of Lon. Torre Cerredo, Peña Vieja and Naranjo de Bulnes are also nearby.

Another hiking route leads from Lon via the winter shelters and meadows of Hoz, Monte de Sobrelon, the winter shelter and meadow of Andalubia, and Hoyu Moru to the heights of Edes at the foot of the eastern massif of the Picos de Europa. Another path leads from the upper part of Lon, before the Ampurce spring, along the river to the ruined buildings of the Las Arredondas mines and the mountain huts of Lon. The two routes can be compared according to their sequence and thematic focus.
Culture and History
The cartulary of the Santo Toribio Monastery documents the first mention of a Hórreo in the village of Lon in the year 831. Lon’s present-day parish church dates from the 16th century, and the local festival of Santa Eugenia is celebrated on 31 January. Hórreos are small rectangular buildings standing on four wooden or stone pillars, thereby keeping the stored harvests off the ground.
