Fuente Dé: Mountains, Cable Car and Hiking Trails in Picos de Europa National Park

In Fuente Dé, the cable car is located in the heart of Picos de Europa National Park. It overcomes an elevation difference of 753 metres and takes visitors to an altitude of 1,823 metres in just four minutes. Mountains

Next to the upper El Cable cafeteria is a south-facing balcony viewpoint overlooking the Cantabrian Mountains. From the viewpoint at the upper cable-car station, you can see across the upper basin of the Deva River. The upper cable-car station is 800 metres from Fuente Dé. The two viewpoints offer different geographical perspectives.

Hiking

The PR-PNPE 23 Horcados Rojos route is 11.4 kilometres long and follows an out-and-back route. It begins at the mountain station of the Fuente Dé cable car and passes high-alpine limestone formations. The PR-PNPE 24 Puertos de Áliva route is a 14.5-kilometre descent from El Cable to Fuente Dé. It runs through extensive mountain meadows between the Central and Eastern Massifs of Picos de Europa; its final section passes through beech and oak forests.

The Vega de Liordes circular route begins on the road south of Fuente Dé towards Pandetrave. In the immediate vicinity of Fuente Dé, there are six short PR hiking trails that are integrated into the Liébana hiking network. Picos de Europa National Park offers guided and interpretive routes led by its own park guides. The out-and-back route remains oriented around the mountain station as its starting point, the descent connects El Cable with Fuente Dé, and the circular route begins south of the village towards Pandetrave. Nature

The Fuente Dé recreational area is located in the La Dehesa car park next to the national park information point. It has tables, a spring and information boards.

The Vega de Liordes circular route passes through an ecologically particularly valuable area of the national park, where Cantabrian brown bears, wolves, deer, wild boar and chamois can be found, among other species. The Circo de Fuente Dé is the source of the Deva River.

The Fuente Dé-Pido glacier complex is of particular geomorphological and scenic interest and is located in Picos de Europa National Park. The landforms in the area of the Fuente Dé-Pido glacier complex were shaped mainly by processes during the Quaternary glaciations.
