Lavín: Nature Park, River Trails and Marzas

The “Recorriendo el Valle de Soba” route leads from the Interpretation Centre of Collados del Asón Nature Park on a descent of approximately 1.5 km to the village of Lavín. After crossing Lavín, the route crosses an iron bridge over the Río Gándara and continues into a wooded area.

Nature and Landscape

The Interpretation Centre of Collados del Asón Nature Park is located in Barrio Lavín in La Gándara de Soba, next to the Monte Lavín recreational area. It provides visitors with information as well as the opportunity to take part in guided and self-guided visits. The facilities also include an approximately 20-minute audiovisual presentation. The exhibition covers the Quaternary glaciation and the underground world. Information panels also present the geomorphology, vegetation, fauna and rural way of life of the Soba Valley.

Collados del Asón Nature Park is a protected natural area in Cantabria and covers 4,020 hectares entirely within the municipality of Soba. At Monte Lavín in La Gándara, the Cagigal woodland was preserved and restored for development as a recreational area. A path along the Río Gándara offers views of several large river basins. The audiovisual presentation, exhibition and information panels each focus on different aspects of the nature park, ranging from geological processes and the underground world to vegetation, fauna and rural life.

Hiking

The Monte la Vega route reaches Lavín after passing through a small Cantabrian holm oak stand (Quercus ilex).
