Trails

On the tourist route from Potes to Puerto de Piedras Luengas, Frama is the first village reached after the initial section through Ojedo. The old route from Potes reaches Frama after passing through the district of Valverde.

From Frama’s Plaza, a short and easy route follows the Bullón River to the picturesque district of Cabariezo and continues along a riverside path to the lower district of Cabezón de Liébana.

From Valverde’s Plaza, a winding path leads through the Quintana area, following the Arroyo Quintana to Lubayo.

You can compare the different trail types, starting points and directions side by side for your own planning and arrange them according to your preferred focus. The name “Límite Norte 4x4” is associated with Frama and Cabezón de Liébana.

Culture

Frama is already mentioned in the medieval cartularies of Santa María de Piasca and Santo Toribio dating from 957. Near the district of Lubayo lie the remains of the former monastery of Santa María, which once dominated the valley.

On the outskirts of Lubayo stands the Ermita de San Andrés, a simple chapel attached to a house. The entrance portal of Frama’s church has round-arched arcades; an archivolt is decorated with 34 large diamond points.

In the district of Valverde, the “San Bartolo” festival is celebrated on 24 August in the local square with its bandstand. You can distinguish the cultural information by time, architectural form and occasion. History, architectural forms and the local festival each provide different focuses, which you can consider separately when planning your day.

Further destinations on this page: Perrozo, Cambarco.

Landscape

From Frama, there is a view of a landscape in the Picos de Europa that is considered particularly beautiful and is frequently photographed.

Landscape views and winegrowing are two independent perspectives that you can weigh alongside the local trails and cultural details when planning your trip. Along the path from Lubayo towards Valverde, there are small vineyards with carefully tended vines trained on wire trellises and in full production.
