Nature

The volcanic cone of Montaña Roja is 171 metres high and was formed by a coastal eruption. The natural monument of Montaña Pelada features a volcanic cone formed by a submarine eruption, psammophilous vegetation and a fossil dune. From El Médano, the natural monument can be reached via Avenida Juan Carlos I; after parking at the end of the road, you can enter the protected area on foot. Montaña Roja can be reached via the TF-64 towards El Médano and then via the TF-643. The former Muelle-embarcadero de El Médano is now a footpath connecting Playa Chica, Paseo del Picacho and Avenida José Miguel Galván Bello. Culture

The GUÍA de ESCULTURAS EL MÉDANO route features sculptures made of stone, wood and steel, designed for public use and enjoyment. The pilgrimage route of Hermano Pedro leads from Vilaflor through the municipalities of San Miguel de Abona and Granadilla de Abona to the coast of El Médano. The Cueva del Santo Hermano Pedro is a sanctuary dedicated to Pedro de San José Betancur. The Romería Barquera de El Médano takes place at the end of September as part of the local festivities. During the romería, the image of the Virgin Mary is carried from the church of El Médano along the town's main street to the central beach, where it is taken by boat in a procession through the bay.
