Hiking, cycling and history

In Llodio, the Laudio Basabideak route leads to local ethnographic features found along the way in lime kilns and ice houses; the restored Mintegieta lime kiln is particularly noteworthy.

The Cinturón de Hierro route is laid out as a hiking trail between Llodio and Arrankudiaga. Along it, visitors can see fortifications, trenches and machine-gun positions from the 1936–1939 war.

The Cinturón de Hierro comprises a short, 8.5-kilometre circular route with an approximate duration of two and a half hours, as well as a long, 13-kilometre circular route with an estimated duration of four and a half hours; both start at the Santuario de Santa María del Yermo.

The Vía Verde del Parque Lineal del Nervión is approximately 15 kilometres long and can be used on foot or by bicycle. At several points, footbridges cross the riverbed, allowing visitors to walk above the river.

The trails and buildings reveal various historical layers: ethnographic sites stand alongside fortifications from the 1936–1939 war, while the Santuario de Santa María del Yermo, with its tower and the adjoining Ermita de Santa Lucía, forms an older architectural focal point.

Parks and buildings

The Parque de Lamuza is an architectural and landscaped complex with an aristocratic summer residence and an extensive park-style garden.

The Lamuza grounds have been publicly owned since 1975. Today, they serve as a public park.

The Ermita de Santa Lucía was built between the 15th and 16th centuries as an extension of the Santuario de Santa María del Yermo.

The Santuario de Santa María del Yermo is a Gothic-Renaissance architectural complex with a freestanding tower.

Festivals and local products

The Feria de San Blas takes place in Laudio every year on the first Saturday in February.

At the fair, pigs, vegetables, horticultural products and handicrafts are presented; culinary competitions and gastronomic preparations also take place.

At the Feria del Viernes de Dolores in Laudio/Llodio, local producers, livestock farmers and artisans sell their products. Talo, cider and Txakoli are also available for tasting.

Baserritar Eguna takes place as part of Laudio/Llodio’s August patron saint festivities as a fair for agricultural, handicraft and local products, and includes traditional dances and rural sports.

The Renfe C3 line between Bilbao and Orduña stops at Areta, Llodio and Santa Cruz de Llodio stations.

Laudio’s motorhome and car park offers 14 spaces for motorhomes and 77 for cars, including three spaces for people with reduced mobility; vehicles may be parked there for a maximum of 72 hours.
