Treviño was declared a Conjunto Monumental in 1983. In Condado de Treviño (Burgos), the parish church of San Pedro de Treviño was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in the Monument category.

Culture and Historical Sites

The Palacio de los Manrique de Lara houses Treviño Town Hall and, as a building, is one of the sights of Treviño’s historic ensemble.

The Palacio de los Condes de Treviño is an example of Renaissance architecture. The façade of the Palacio de los Izquierdo bears the coats of arms of the Izquierdo family as well as a sculpture of Saint Barbara. The Palacio de los Izquierdo is located opposite the intersection of Calle Mayor and Calle Casal in the historic centre of Treviño.

The Ermita de San Juan Bautista is located on Calle El Alto in Treviño.

The town therefore brings together different kinds of heritage: a town hall in a historic palace, a Renaissance building, a façade decorated with a family coat of arms and a sculpture of a saint, and a chapel on a named street. Together with the parish church protected as a monument and the town’s designation as a Conjunto Monumental, this creates a clearly defined cultural character.

Landscape Along the Ayuda

Treviño lies in a valley crossed by the Ayuda River. In the surroundings of Treviño is the 426-hectare Desfiladero del río Ayuda gorge, designated as a Site of Community Importance (LIC). A signposted path beginning in Sáseta follows the course of the Ayuda River through the Desfiladero del río Ayuda gorge.

The landscape information combines three distinct elements: the valley crossed by the Ayuda, the 426-hectare gorge designated as an LIC, and the signposted path from Sáseta that follows the course of the river. The valley, protected area, and path therefore describe different spatial and substantive aspects of the landscape.

Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The Museo de Bellas Artes, a museum, the Palacio Zulueta, a palace, the Museo Diocesano de Arte Sacro, a museum, and the Jauregia Palacio, a palace, are located in the surroundings of Treviño. The María de Maeztu Garden is also located in the surroundings of Treviño and is a garden.

In the wider regional area around Treviño is the Balcon De La Rioja, a viewpoint. The Pico de Toloño, a peak, is also located in the surroundings of Treviño. Larrasa lies in the wider regional area around Treviño and is a mountain.

Balcon De La Rioja and Larrasa, by contrast, lie in the wider regional area and are identified as a viewpoint and a mountain, respectively.
